The former museum, built in 1961, became small for half a million visitors a year and did not reflect the entire 120-year history of the planet’s oldest automaker. And the laurels of eternal antipodes from Munich - BMW - did not give rest. Bavarian cars (and motorbikes) are located in the huge bowl of their museum in a philosophical spiral (the visitor, climbing up the escalator, goes down in circles), and in Stuttgart there was no such philosophy. But now, Mercedes has already two spirals: inside the building resembles the structure of DNA, personifying neither more nor less human heritage.

The first hall of the new museum and the center of the composition of the building - the atrium, the room with the upper light in the center - a reflection of the ancient traditions of Ancient Rome. The nine-story atrium, formed by the architecture of the double helix, is impressive in itself. Climbing any of the three elevators to the 42-meter high atrium, visitors can watch short “preparatory” videos. At the very top you can hear a horse neighing: you're on the verge of inventing a car!

The platforms on the turns of two symbolic 9-story spirals communicating with each other are parts of two parallel expositions. The first consists of seven “Halls of Legends,” chronologically telling the story of the brand.

The second one embraces a variety of cars of different eras in five “Collection Halls”. Fifteen hundred exhibits, of which 160 are automobiles, are designed to help you feel the spirit of the brand and make a detailed picture of its history. For the first time, more than a hundred-year history of the company's trucks has been revealed. Each “Hall of Legends” represents an era on the central stage: the invention of a gasoline car and the emergence of the Mercedes brand, the creation of a compressor and diesel engine, a double-wing door and a “half-hood” truck in the 1950s, the growing importance of safety, ecology and the global expansion of the brand - Up to the topic of racing cars and record cars. Exhibited exhibits and closed funds (vaults) are a hallmark of any museum.

“Halls of collections” act as a demonstration deposit and are focused on the frequent change of exhibits. They trump many diverse Mercedes - travel, transportation of goods, special equipment for fire, rescue and communal services, cars of outstanding personalities. And the “Gallery of Heroes” - inconspicuous, but very useful cars that carry daily service around the world. In other words, the “Halls of Legends” is staged, and the “Halls of Collections” document the charm of the past. The purpose of each “Hall of Legends” is to move the visitor in time. Cars in this case are the most important landmarks. But something more is needed. Guessed? Brass sheet surroundings are a hint of an era in mechanics. The lining with wood is in the thirties, the faux leather is in the fifties, and the Safety and Ecology Hall is finished with the material from which the airbags are made.

The spirals end with a sharp turn - the Silver Arrows - Races and Records hall. The deep bend that surrounds almost the entire room turns into a vertical cylindrical wall with legendary record cars. The emotional completion of the museum route …
