- No matter what novelties the opened Moscow Motor Show presents, all the same, its visitors are primarily interested in Russian subjects. You, of course, saw the exposition of GAZ, UAZ. What do you think?

- Still, AvtoVAZ is closer to me …

- We will naturally get to the VAZ - do not hesitate. But what do you think, for example, about Ulyanovsk news - is their stand just opposite yours?

- I think this is a controversial move. The UAZ niche, as it seems to me, is Russian off-road, farmer's concerns. When choosing a car, Russians always clearly correlate the expected consumer properties of a purchase with its price. In our opinion, today the village needs simpler solutions - in other words, the car is just with normal quality! The models that we plan to offer, for example, will be of modular design, with removable equipment, reliable, easy to maintain and with a good price / quality ratio.

- And what about the initiatives of GAZ, for example, the Volga with the Chrysler engine? We just carried out serious 60-hour tests of the “Factory Brand Championship” at the training ground - everyone agreed that in the Nizhny Novgorod car it is necessary to force the speed limit. The undercarriage is not adapted to the engine.

- You know, I, as a representative of the Russian automobile industry, are happy with all this that the rumors about our death were untenable. No matter how they kill us, no matter how they declare “offside”, we are still alive!

- But why die - you have to live!

- Yes, but even some of my partners and colleagues in the automotive industry today say that the market needs to be given back - and we are supposedly ready to do it. You see, give away one and a half to two million cars a year! But they themselves do not need to do anything, because we don’t know how and don’t want to …

- These are emotions. But the specifics is that we do not have a modern component base - why be surprised?

- Yes, alas. And for cars with a rook on a radiator, we need the same components that go, for example, to Mercedes and BMW. A kind of modular constructor. Otherwise, our future C-class can be buried immediately.

- So we move on to the VAZ theme. After a year that you are at the helm, could you finally decide? Where do you get the components from? And for what car, in what design - in the new C-class? Is it possible that you will have an alliance with a foreign partner? How about Renault Nissan offers? What kind of enterprise is 450 thousand cars? Will you do this on your own or with the involvement of a foreign partner?

- Let's wait until the end of autumn. We are working on different options. The cornerstone task is to create a new engine production. Here we have no resource! VAZ already needs another 300 thousand engines and gearboxes today. Do not buy them on the side - it will cost more than a car. Only then can we return to the conversation about a new car assembly plant. In the meantime, we will use internal reserves. On which line and at which plant the C-class will go, has not yet been decided. Various options are possible.

- Let's imagine a VAZ in the form of a chain of communicating vessels with a large funnel at the entrance … Funds, forces, resources pour into the funnel - they go, say, to the development of a new production, to Samara, Prior, Ten and Kalina ", In the future C-class, as well as at GM-AVTOVAZ, in the scientific and technical center, in pilot production … There is still sports, a social program, etc. Agree: if none of these “vessels” can be closed from above, then the level of infusions will be distributed among them by itself, striving for one line - as a result, no one will be enough. It turns out: you need to "shut up" something. Does this analogy bother you?

- No, not annoying. But we "shut up", or rather, optimize the work, based on the development priorities of the enterprise. As I said, a new auto industry will not be built in the near future. NTC salt with pilot production. As for our sport, there will no longer be the same hatred when we famously clutched at everything from auto racing to hockey. Take a project, study, attract sponsors …

- By the way, you still need frames …

- Yes, this is also a problem.

“And there is no money, is it?” However, one can ask more simply: who is still the owner of the VAZ? There was still no clarity!

- The fact is that we inherited a system of cross-shareholdings, that is, its "daughters" own the plant. In general, this system is used in world practice. But today our task is to make corporatization transparent. It would be ideal to update shareholders “from scratch, ” but the realities are somewhat different.

- Conversing with the management of Peugeot Citroen, I proposed to build a diesel engine plant in our country. Would you take such motors?

- It will be expensive. Our regions so far ride our "classic". And we need a budget car!

- But if you put imported motors on the same Kalina, then you can immediately increase its output to the promised 120 thousand next year! There are still no alternatives! Yes, the price will go up, but it's worth it!

- We are actively working, looking. There is simply no place where these engines lie and wait for us. Our good ones are clear to consumers in the regions. Therefore, we are now developing programs both for a significant increase in capacities for the production of existing engines, and for the creation of new power units, including diesel. As a temporary solution, we may agree to supply us with motors from abroad. Of course, they should be adapted to Russian conditions and our cars.
