Ignorance and distrust are gradually replaced by interest - painfully attractive prices. Let's try to understand the Chinese diversity in relation to our market.

Eastern crumbs

More recently, in the class of city cars with engines up to 1 liter, the Oka and Matiz got along quite peacefully, thanks to a considerable difference in prices. Today, in Naberezhnye Chelny, they are no longer doing Oku. And with the introduction of Euro II, Serpukhov cars (with a Chinese engine) will go up to about $ 4, 500. Such machines are already appearing at dealers - the aforementioned gap is narrowing.

The Chinese Flyer of BYD (ЗР, 2006, No. 2) in the basic configuration costs about $ 6000. But he is a five-door and with all the shortcomings more comfortable and modern "Oka". Matiz has even more competitors: Chery-Sweet (who came to Russia first as S11, then QQ) (ЗР, 2005, No. 9; 2006, No. 1), “Hafei Brio” and “FAW-Djinn” (ZR, 2006, No. 7). By the way, the FAW company is nothing but the “First Automobile Plant”, First Automobile Works, the company that began the biography with the release of the ZIS-150. Nowadays, a huge state-owned holding produces a wide variety of cars: from trucks to compact city cars.

Kids have few “horses”, but for the city this is quite acceptable. By the way, the relatively low liter capacity of most Chinese engines is explained, in particular, by the low quality of fuel in the distant provinces of China.

In "Chery", "Hafei" and "Djinn", which are not structurally different from other classmates we know, there are airbags, ABS. And on the first as an option - even a robotic gearbox with the ability to manually shift. The choice of trim levels is not bad. True, prices of $ 8–11 thousand, unlike the cost of Flyer, cannot be called surprisingly low.

FAVORITE SIZE

In the most popular among Russians, the class of four-five-door cars with engines of 1.5–2.0 liters, Chinese companies are not very active so far. The Chery company turned out to be bolder than others, having started selling the Amulet in 2006, which first appeared with the A15 index in our company. In fact, this is a converted SEAT-Toledo born in 1991. Changing the appearance, the car was equipped with a licensed engine «Mitsubishi 3000 GT - 1.6 l / 100 hp The design of the car is no different. But the interior and trunk are spacious, everything that is needed by a driver who is not too capricious is present (ЗР, 2006, No. 6). Today, dealers are already receiving “amulets” of Kaliningrad production. This is the turn of history - half a century after the construction of the “First Automobile Plant” of China with the help of the USSR.

On the way to our dealers, there is one more Chery - a bigger one, the name is being replaced by the A21 index. For him, they promise an automatic transmission, climate control and even a leather interior, all for about $ 20, 000. Perhaps this model will also be made in Kaliningrad.

“Chery Oriental Sun” (“Son of the East”, aka B11 - see ЗР, 2005, No. 9) is noticeably more spacious and solid than the “Amulet”. Alas, the basic version for $ 19, 000 is not finished and staffed too richly. Yes, and a 2-liter engine with 125 hp weak for a sedan, although the declared maximum speed of 195 km / h. But we will be offered a top model - with an engine of 2.4 l / 130 hp, a hydromechanical gearbox, in a rich configuration. It not only has a full power accessories and a set of passive safety features, but also a multimedia complex with three monitors and a rear view camera.

Vanguard of increased cross-country ability

The Chinese did not accidentally begin exploration of our market with all-wheel drive vehicles. This group is now the largest in the market. After all, off-road vehicles are honored even by the inhabitants of the center of the capital …

First, pickups were not the first to be fresh. Tianye-Admiral and Great Wall Deere (ЗР, 2006, No. 2) practically copy Toyota-Hailux of the 1980s. Classical scheme: frame, continuous rear axle, front wheels are connected rigidly, transfer case with lowered row. No sophisticated electronics to control traction, suspension or brakes. Great Wall Sailor and Tianma Equido are only modern in body and interior trim (ZR, 2006, No. 2). The latter, however, can be bought not only with gasoline, but also with a diesel 94-horsepower engine (material about such a modification in this issue). But diesel engines on Chinese four-wheel drive models are still rare: they are not very popular in the domestic market.

Following the pickups, all-terrain vehicles similar in design came to Russia. The Great Wall Safe (ZR, 2005, No. 2), equipped with a 106-horsepower gasoline engine, is almost an exact copy of the early Toyota Fo Runner and a close relative of the Great Wall Deer pickups. Structural analogues: the Admiral SUV, which began to be assembled in Biysk, and the 126-horsepower Dead-Shuttle, manufactured in Cherkessk as the Derways-313120 (ZR, 2006, No. 3). By the way, by the ingenuity of indices, the Chinese auto industry will give the Russian big head start. In addition to the make and model on each Chinese machine (and outside!) There is a code, modifications and configurations - for example, CC6460DY. To understand this gibberish is a thankless task, and even unnecessary.

Perhaps the most modern in design, comfort, safety, the Chinese all-terrain vehicle Great Wall Hover (ZR, 2005, No. 12), which looks like an Isuzu-Axiom. Front axle and wheel clutches include a button from the passenger compartment; in addition to the 105 hp gasoline version, a diesel will soon appear. The power unit, however, does not shine - about 78 hp, but, apparently, it is capable of digesting not the best fuel.

In this group, “Chery-Tigo” stands apart (ZR, 2005, No. 7). It is very similar to the “Toyota-RAV4” of the previous generation, but it is front-wheel drive and costs from $ 16, 500. In the summer in Russia, a model appeared with permanent all-wheel drive and an interaxle viscous clutch.

SERIOUS AND LONG?

For a young and ambitious Chinese auto industry, Russia is a huge market, where the requirements are largely similar to domestic ones. Yes Yes! Our fuel quality is also unstable, environmental requirements are not the highest, and the demand for roomy four-wheel drive, albeit not the most modern, but inexpensive cars is enviable. And Russia for the Celestial Empire is a “window to Europe”. Including therefore the Chinese in the near future will refresh and replenish lineups. Not far from the time when dealers will have new B- and C-classes, mini-vans and minibuses, crossovers and all-terrain vehicles, including those assembled at Russian factories. These models, as a rule, will no longer be “rehashings” of Korean and Japanese. After all, with such a proposal, “you will not go far” in an increasingly demanding Russian market, and even more so in the European one.

Undoubtedly, Chinese companies came to Russia with very serious intentions. But to gain a significant market share they will have to make a lot of effort. Without an extensive dealer and service network, one cannot count on widespread recognition. To the level of leading world manufacturers, which cannot be measured only by kilowatts, dollars and a set of options, cars from China are far away. However, Europeans wrote about the same about Korean models about twenty years ago …

WHAT IS THE GREAT WALL?

The Great Wall Motor Company is a typical representative of the new auto industry in China. A private company headquartered in Baoding, founded in 1990, today produces rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive pickups in many modifications, off-road vehicles, vans and minivans.

In the near future, the company will offer customers several new products. The Great Wall Hover version with automatic transmission will appear. And at the company's engine plant, preparations are under way for the production of a 2.8-liter diesel engine. They also plan to produce a new generation pickup - the Superior. In autumn, a factory of cars and vans with engines of 1.3–2 liters will start operating in Baoding.

Great Wall is ready to begin cooperation with Russia. They plan to produce up to 50 thousand pickups and all-terrain vehicles in Yelabug a year with the prospect of increasing volumes and expanding the model range.

SLOW AND RUNNING

The corporate slogan "Great Wall" literally translates as follows: "Improve little by little every day." The company, at first glance, really moves slowly, but very prudently and far-sighted. Workshops where "hovers" are made are clearly designed "for growth." Equipment for stamping, welding, painting - modern, leading manufacturers. But where you can save, they do without them. Let's say there is no complicated and expensive equipment for warehouses. Components are in a spacious assembly workshop, next to the conveyor. High-tech machines will increase the cost of cars; on the contrary, labor in China is cheap.

Image
Image

By the way, Great Wall workers who passed the qualifying sieve (a competition - over ten people per seat!) Have been living in a dormitory for a couple of weeks, taking a "young fighter course", which, in particular, includes jogging in formation (!) Through the factory stadium. They say to improve physical fitness and team spirit. Such oriental features …

NEW PERIOD PARK

On the roads of the Middle Kingdom bicycles bizarre, but peacefully coexist, including with freight trailers, slow-moving, small tractors plaintively rattling with exhausted engines, three-wheeled (!) Diesel trucks - and modern cars, including … Porsche and Mercedes. The latter, however, are very few. But in abundance "Audi", "Volkswagen", "Citroen", "Toyota", cars of other famous brands, but locally produced. There are still relatively few cars of new local brands - Great Wall, Chery and others. But this is not about consumer distrust. Simply, many models basically diverge in the same place where they are made. After all, let's say, 30 million people live in a small, by Chinese standards, Hebei province …
