In addition, the first quarter throughout the world is considered a failure - people are moving away from a series of winter holidays and going for serious purchases only by the beginning of spring. This is with them. And our reality has once again refuted all the rules and trends - sales of foreign cars in the first three months exceeded the same period last year by 1.5 (!) Times.

OUR, ALMOST OUR, NOT OUR

Alas, as in previous years, we can’t compare the sales of domestic cars and foreign cars by the end of the quarter - traditional Russian manufacturers traditionally present such reports only twice a year. Therefore, for “ours” one can accurately name only the number of machines manufactured, and the number of sold ones is only an approximation. Because of this, we tabulate only “foreigners,” but all of them - both those made in Russia and those imported by direct import.

So, according to official data, in the first quarter of 2006, AvtoVAZ increased production by 3% compared to the same period last year, 170, 686 Lada cars were produced. In total for the first three months of 2006, 138 thousand cars were sold on the domestic market, which is 2.8% more than sales in the same period of 2005. That's how it is, but still a quarter of the cars released in early April have not yet been sold! Hoping for spring boom demand?

Actually, the successes of traditional domestic manufacturers ended there; all other plants reported a decrease in output. But the "foreigners" have something to be proud of. True, the almost new 50% increase in sales is due to the “new” domestic production: after all, the lion's share of foreign cars was collected in Russia, Uzbekistan and Ukraine!

Here's a report: sales of Hyundai cars in Russia in the first three months of this year increased by 1.5 times and reached almost 22 thousand units. But at the same time, most of them (almost 11.7 thousand) were collected at the Taganrog plant. The most popular is still the Russian Accent sedan (8535 cars), the Korean Getz hatchback is significantly behind its brother - with a result of 3161, the car takes only 13th place in the success scale.

Another “alas” (fortunately, the only one addressed to the “new” manufacturers) concerns the Russian-American joint venture GM-AvtoVAZ. In January-March 2006, 9, 661 cars were produced here - 28.3% less than a year earlier. At the same time, from January to April they sold 9165 cars - 9 thousand Chevrolet Niva all-terrain vehicles and 165 Viva sedans. It seems that the demand for a joint brainchild - "Niva" is rapidly falling; We have already written about the reasons for cooling more than once. And the appearance of the long-awaited "export" version for $ 19.2 thousand, in our opinion, is unlikely to seriously fuel interest in the model. They waited too long, and the price is not happy …

Meanwhile, Zaporizhzhya Automobile Plant is increasing exports to Russia of its Chevrolet Lanos. The turned “Korean” made in Ukraine differs with a bang in our country: it was shown to the Russians for the first time in November-December, and already in February monthly sales exceeded 2 thousand units.

It is very difficult to logically explain the surge in demand for cars from Uzbekistan in the first quarter. In January-March, UzDaewooAvto sold over 15 thousand cars in Russia, and the Daewoo Nexia model unexpectedly took the first place in the popularity rating, rising immediately to three positions!

Sales of the Ford company grew in strict accordance with the plans and reached 15 950 cars. It’s easy for Americans to plan here: after all, the main volumes are “selected” due to one, but very popular “Focus” model, which is collected in the Leningrad Region. How much they did - so much they sold; the turn is still for three to four months. As a result, the overall growth compared to the first quarter of 2005 is 85%.

Thus, thanks primarily to the Russian (or "Eseng" assembly), the four leaders occupy 42% of the entire market for new foreign cars. Almost 13% of sales came from Renault and KIA (8th and 9th place in the ranking), which established assembly in Moscow, Izhevsk and Kaliningrad. Toyota (No. 5) is already building a plant in St. Petersburg, Nissan (No. 9) and Volkswagen (No. 11) are about to sign an industrial assembly agreement.

The next surge in interest in Nexia is scheduled for fall, when UzDaew promises to bring an updated version to the market. Following the "Uzbek" is the Russian Ford Focus. “Mitsubishi Lancer” “moved out” from second place to third. Moreover, if compared with the I quarter of 2005, now the model sold better (+ 27%), and if with the IV quarter - then much worse (-25%). Sales of its main competitors, Nissan Almera and Toyota Corolla, which also fell two or three places down, also declined. The explanations are simple - the models are not the newest, not the cheapest, but competitors assembled in Russia and Ukraine breathe in the back. However, they no longer breathe - they overtook: Renault Logan from Moscow is now in 5th place, and Chevrolet Lanos from Zaporozhye is in 6th place. Climbed one point "Hyundai Accent" from Taganrog; a few more months - and he can get around the “Lancer”. Then all the top lines in the ranking will be occupied exclusively by models assembled within the CIS.
