In the meantime, we offer everyone to get acquainted with the funny implementation of one very urgent issue. The essence of the proposal is set out in a reader's letter, which is given in its original form - without editorial revision.

The purpose of the proposal is clear - to increase the efficiency of the car and raise its "maximum speed". To do this, it is recommended to “strangle” the filling, in order to “give hands to those who like it”, to stomp the gas pedal sharply, compensating for this with antifriction additives. However, a few questions arise.


Let's start from afar. It is clear that the Porsche Cayman eats five times more fuel than, say, the Oka. But it is unlikely that the owner of the Cayman will want to “lower” him to the parameters of the Oka. Here is the same. A sharp increase in the resistance at the inlet is, in fact, de-boosting the engine, and not at all a way of saving. If it’s extremely hard for the money - take a bike, leaving the car in the garage. But this is so, from the lyrics …

If you “strangle” a gasoline engine, then, along with power, fuel consumption can decrease - it goes into the cylinder with air. But "strangling" the filling on a diesel engine is generally somehow illogical. The fuel consumption there will not decrease in any way: it goes directly to the cylinder - but we will violate the calculated composition of the mixture, causing the engine to smoke. If someone does not believe - try on a diesel engine, especially naturally aspirated, to climb high into the mountains. Bad for him there: not enough air. There is no power, and fuel consumption is growing. Here is the same …

Another thing is also interesting - but where does the author of the message pour metal conditioners? Judging by the fact that for starters he dilutes them with kerosene, it seems, in the fuel tank … This is something new in the use of these compounds. It used to happen that people confused bottles and poured, for example, the Energy-3000 oil additive into fuel - and nothing, even some kind of effect was observed … But there is a composition in it, which, judging by the smell, has a lot of naphthalene. But “Fenom”, ER or SMT-2, containing heavy hydrocarbons of the paraffin group, is not recommended to be poured into fuel. Let the authors of these drugs correct us. However, it will not be much worse - they will burn in cylinders, and that’s it. Raise the engine a little and stop … That's just the question - why? Kerosene fuel can already be diluted, even cheaper.


But with the numbers you need to figure it out. Here the matter may be as follows.

Firstly, in such cases a kind of self-deception is often manifested: I try to convince myself that my invention saves fuel. And involuntarily you start to drive so that overtaking nervous motorists twist a finger at the temple or angrily beep. In addition, fuel consumption depends on the temperature and air pressure overboard, tire pressure, vehicle loading, the number of traffic jams, the volume of birds tweeting on the street and a lot more from that. And how do we measure this flow? According to notes on a piece of paper with a fixation of mileage? Sorry - we do not believe!

Secondly, do not forget that there is still a certain effect in terms of reducing friction losses in antifriction preparations. Although we have an unflattering opinion about the advertising of such funds (ЗР, 2006, No. 3), some advantages can come up. And then the question arises - wouldn’t it be even better if you remove the rag from the filter on a treated engine?


Engineers very often have to deal with similar suggestions. Sometimes they bear the loud names of "inventions", "patents", and their filing is always accompanied by swearing or dismissive and derogatory glances in the direction of professional engines. They say that everything is so simple, but you dumb ones can’t do anything … What was missing here - and needles in the carburetor, and tin cans on the outlet, and colanders on the inlet, and holes on the candles, and television transformers on the gas line. There was also cold thermonuclear fusion in the cylinder, and gizmos modifying oil through fuel so that it could not even be torn off from the cylinder with a brush. There were a lot of things … But the point?

Believe me, the problem of reducing fuel consumption has always been and still is for engine owners. But it is far from being solved as simply as it seems at first glance: the figures for reducing consumption by 3-5% are a huge effect from the point of view of a professional. But “amateurs” dream in other categories - 10, 15, 20%, or even more. I don’t want to ridicule their “inventions” in absentia and indiscriminately, but in our practice NONE of such proposals have ever manifested themselves. Therefore: sorry - we do not believe!

In general, the next inventor correctly felt for two main trends in improving the working process of the engine - this is work with filling and reducing friction losses. But if in the second he simply did not discover anything new - antifriction additives were created in order to reduce friction, then in the first case he went in the wrong direction. Any "tuner" will say that the simplest engine boost, which, in fact, is to increase the efficiency of the work process, is tied to reducing losses in the intake tract. The fill factor is a parameter that characterizes the quality of the intake, this is the alpha and omega of the workflow. And to ruin the quality of the intake and talk about improving the parameters is not just unprofessional, but completely ridiculous.
