The smallest, simplest and cheapest are equipped with 2-stroke engines from chainsaws. Why is it from the saws - others or not? But why not? “Saw” engines are very light and can be implanted in the undercarriage of the motik without any alterations (motors with standard centrifugal clutch and chain drive sprocket). The manual starter and cooling fan are also compact. By the way, this brilliant idea - “ride a chainsaw” is not new, it came to mind and was embodied by our do-it-yourselfers back in the 80s. The Chinese went further - installed an electric starter. Since there are no “light” windings in the chainsaw generator (at night the forest, as a rule, does not cut down), the battery for the headlight and starter is recharged from the mains.
A lot of the same type of minicars with “saw” engines are sold on our market - scooters, pocket bikes, motos in the style of enduro or chopper. But do not flatter yourself: reliability and durability, and even more so comfort - not about them. At the same time, they are an excellent simulator for teaching a child to ride "on horseback" or Sunday pokatushek in a small area.
The folding Falcon mini-scooter (price - 13 700 rubles) has a 43 cc engine that develops 1.9 hp. at 6500 rpm The steering wheel and seat are adjustable in height, the steering tube is separated. A headlight, a taillight, “flashers” and a sound signal imply that this is not only an “areal” toy. With its own weight of 28 kg, a mini scooter (carrying capacity of 110 kg) will carry an adult at a speed of up to 30 km / h. A tank with a capacity of 1 liter is enough for 50–70 km of track. By the way, on such an apparatus the whole past summer our familiar postman traveled around his site.
The great advantage of a mini-scooter - it fits in the trunk of a car - this makes it akin to an electric scooter. But Falcon wins in that it is able to run more than an electric scooter on a single charge. Even if gas runs out, filling it up is a matter of minutes, while charging batteries, even the most advanced ones, will take several hours. But there is a drawback: a 2-stroke engine without a separate lubrication system smokes, and it's great.
Cool deserving wheels on wheels deserve to be called exotic. You can’t name them cheap. They came from America, where they are called GoPeds. Gopeds are divided into extreme (or upright) and superior - with a retractable saddle.
The Bigfoot off-road gasoline gooped appeared in 1997. This is one of the first off-road gas scooters. A reinforced frame and 10-inch shock-absorbing tires (there are no wheel suspensions on the scooter), as well as high ground clearance and a disc front brake, distinguish this machine from a number of similar ones. The peculiarity of the gooped is the patented clutch design: it prevents rollback when the engine is idle. A two-section muffler reduces exhaust noise, a miniature two-stroke engine allows you to drive 100 miles (about 160 km) on one gallon of gasoline (about 4.5 liters). Price in the USA - $ 560.
Steeper is the “SUV” Trail Ripper 40. This amazing motorized scooter weighs only 20 kilograms, it is equipped with a two-stroke engine with a working volume of 41.5 cm3 and a power of 4 hp. When designing pendants, the developers clearly followed a rule that was unshakable for off-road motorcycles: their piston stroke should equal half the diameter of the wheel. So here, with a wheel diameter of 11 inches, the suspension travel is 6 inches (150 mm). The stiffness of the elastic elements is adjustable, which is convenient for riders of different weights and in order to adapt to the features of the off-road track. It remains to wait for some extremal to install an engine from a “hard” enduro on it.
Model Trail Ripper 40, like Bigfoot, is equipped with a “recoilless” clutch. Wheel disks are cast from magnesium alloy, tire dimension is 4.0–11. When buying, you can choose the gear ratio of the chain transmission. The price in the USA is $ 1000.
If the overseas goopeds are still exotic, then Reggy ZIP chopper, made in the style of Harley-Davidson chopper fashion trendsetter, has been successfully sold in Moscow for a year now. Its characteristic V-twin is nothing more than a plastic dummy. In fact, the motorcycle is driven by a 43 cc 2-stroke engine from a chainsaw. The abundance of chrome, electric starters, extended foot platforms, a high-mounted steering wheel - all this gives young drivers the resemblance to real American bikers. The mini-bike is designed for driving on streets and roads - its equipment includes direction indicators, sound and brake lights, a dual-mode headlight. 1.9 hp engine accelerates the device to 35 km / h. Both 5-inch wheels with spring suspensions. Brakes: rear - tape, front - disc with a mechanical drive (cable).
Chopperen weighs 43 kilograms, and not only a child is able to take away, but also a teenager weighing up to 100 kg. It costs a lot - 19 500 rubles. For everything that looks like an “American legend,” you have to pay exorbitant prices.
The other characteristics and dimensions of the other "Chinese" - Flamin ', made in the style of enduro. The suspension used parts of mountain bicycles, which, with some stretch, will allow the children to drive "on pampas". This machine can be called the first step to more advanced devices, which in the West are called "pit bikes."
The growing popularity of this class of motorcycles abroad is similar to an avalanche. The pit bike boom has reached Russia: today, several companies have presented such devices at once, but these are cheap Chinese models - for beginners.
Pit bikes are mini-bikes for off-road racing for children and adolescents. A revolution in the world of off-road mini-bikes was made by the motorcycle Honda XR50. Teenagers consider it a cult, in many countries the popularity of the device is comparable only with H.-D. in adults. Its four-stroke 50 cc engine, developed even for the Honda Super Cub scooter in the early 60s, became famous for the most massive circulation in the world:
more than 50 million manufactured Cubs alone! The engine is equipped with an automatic centrifugal clutch and a 3- or 4-speed gearbox. The popularity of these engines began to grow with the start of their production under the “Honda” license (and without it) at factories in China, India, South Korea and other countries. A low factory price (a couple of hundred dollars) with a quite satisfactory quality (which even the "Honda" generality recognizes) is a strong argument in favor of a long-lived motor. In America, more than a dozen companies produce pit bikes, in Europe there are no less.
A typical pit bike from America is equipped with a 107 cc 4-speed engine developing about 8 hp. at 8000 rpm An electric starter is required, because not every child can afford to start such an engine with elastic kick. Both wheels are equipped with hydraulic disc brakes, tires - 2.75-12 in front and 3.0-10 in the rear. Suspension, of course, hydraulic, often with several adjustments. The front fork and the swingarm of the rear suspension are made of aluminum alloy. Dry weight - 55–65 kg, wheelbase - less than a meter.
The attractiveness of XR50-type devices is also that they open up enormous opportunities for tuning (starting from replacing individual parts, ending with building up the cubic capacity up to 125 cm3). The tuning industry for the XR50 and its Asian clones is huge, and it is developing simultaneously with the “untwisting” of off-road motor sports.
Another model in the same style - Honda CRF50 (with a purely Japanese assembly) can be bought for about 45-50 thousand rubles.
The Yamaha TTR50E pit bike model recently debuted. In appearance and technical characteristics, it is almost indistinguishable from the "Honda" bestseller.
