We won’t argue about advertising - how much can you? But let's talk about ASK. It so happened that a maximum of miraculous means promising “happiness and communism” tomorrow (but after the purchase!) Revolve in medicine and around the car. Well - we get a couple of Automotive Catalyst Synthesizers (ASK) and get ready for motor tests … But first, study the device’s Operation Guide.

“450 thousand km without overhaul, increasing the actual engine displacement from 1, 500 to 1, 700 cubes, switching to“eightieth”gasoline, reducing CO, CH and smoke by 1.5–5 times, fuel economy up to 14% …”. Sounds tempting. By the way, part-time letters ASK are the initials of the creator of the product. Probably a coincidence … And we will start with the theory.

80, 92, 95 …

The ability to use relatively cheap fuel is explained to us by the “spin-lattice” transformation. Even the degree of increase in the octane number is promised - 2–5 units for the “classic” and 2–3 for the “front-wheel drive”. It must be assumed that the device automatically recognizes the transverse or longitudinal installation of the engine - a class!

How is that? According to the creators of ASK, already in the engine the fractional composition of the fuel … is changing! But only the combination of hydrocarbons (of the order of 120–150) that the fuel consists of is responsible for the fractional composition. And it depends on the oil field and fuel technology.

Okay - suppose that the fractional composition somehow changed in the direction of increasing lighter fractions, which, according to the inventors, caused an increase in the octane number. But if they had glanced at the usual guide to petrochemistry, they would have seen that the lungs of the fractions have a much lower octane rating! Will we argue?

By the way, what octane number are we talking about? After all, there are quite a few of them: details are in Our Help. Okay, let's go … But then - more. It turns out that the same process increases both the octane and cytane (spelling preserved) the number of combinations of hydrocarbons, called in one case gasoline, in the other - diesel fuel. By the way, the digital number in nature does not exist (not to be confused with the citrus!) - there is a digital number. But if it is precisely about him, then this is even funnier: after all, octane and cetane numbers are the essence of the opposite! The first characterizes the stability of the fuel and counteracts its self-ignition, the second - on the contrary, determines its ability to self-ignite, that is, in fact, instability! Something wrong…


From octane numbers to the promised increase in power and efficiency. Any engine operator knows: their maximum is achieved on a “hard” process, when the pressure in the cylinder rises sharply. Everything is simple - it is advisable to burn the fuel when the piston is at the top and the volume of the combustion chamber is minimal. So, in order to intensify the combustion to get the numbers that ASK promises, the combustion rate should increase by 30-50%. And this will immediately increase the maximum pressure in the cylinder by the same percentage. The cylinder head will begin to “bounce” on the block, and the detonation will be such that the deaf will hear. Do not believe me - spin the angle of advance ten degrees ahead …


Another talent of ASK is “instant start-up and warm-up of the motor”. Well, an instant start-up is still fine, but what is an “instant warm-up”? In fact, the speed of heating the motor is determined at the same initial temperatures only by the thermal inertia of the glands from which it is made, as well as by the intensity of the heat flux. So what does ASA affect - thermal inertia (heat capacity and mass of parts) or the magnitude of the heat flux? Rather, the second, but then will not everything melt inside after warming up?


And it’s quite interesting - the claimed double increase in resource. The explanation is simple - motor oil “polarizes” and begins to stick to the walls. But if we completely gasify the fuel, then, therefore, we exclude its subsidence on the walls. But at the same time we direct some fields to the oil through the fuel. By the way, when gasoline comes into contact with oil, the latter dissolves and is washed off the cylinder walls … Or not?


… And the tree of life is magnificently green. This seems to be from Goethe. Theory is theory, but if the ASK is really capable of practically confirming at least one declared parameter, then all our reasoning will melt right away.

We tried to read Goethe according to the prescribed instructions on a stand with a VAZ 2108 engine.

To begin with, we removed the basic characteristics on A-92 gasoline - both with the standard adjustment of the ignition system and with the recommended increased lead angle. We got what we were supposed to get - earlier ignition increased power, reduced fuel consumption and aroused detonation. Then they poured A-80 gasoline, worked on it and again became convinced of the obvious: of course, you can drive, but “low, low” … Of course, with an increase in load, the engine starts indignantly “knock with your fingers”, as some uneducated motorists say.

And then - everything was prescribed as a “doctor". They soaked the red cartridge for 5 hours with gasoline, filled it with fuel according to “there is nowhere to go” - all according to the instructions! Then they put it on the engine, gave it to work exactly 9 minutes (for it is written in the script - from 5 to 10!), Then changed to green and drove off … One hundred kilometers, two hundred, three hundred (in hourly equivalent, of course). After four hundred kilometers, the measurements were repeated first at the basic setting, then shifting the lead angle forward. The effect is within the measurement error. Okay, let's ride again … We drove as far as 2000 km - the effect is zero, that is, within the margin of error!

They tried to fill in the A-80 - maybe a miracle will happen? No, he doesn’t want to - “the same knocks, side view” … The road octane number was not affected anywhere: as it was, it remained.


In the meantime, while they were "rolling", they filled a jar of yellow liquid from the gas line - sorry, for analysis … We measured the octane number by all means - alas. Details are shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

More comments needed? We did not check the doubling of the resource - let someone else further try to find a “black cat in a dark room”. This was enough for us …



Not satisfy children's curiosity - but what is there inside, in the little red and green boxes? - it was impossible … Sawed - we tell and show! Details are in photos 1 and 2.


And the result is simple … It’s even not bad! Indeed, from the installation of the ASK - at least the green cartridge - the engine did not seem to get any worse.

The second plus is in compliance with the main trends of active “retraction”, adopted from Western marketing techniques. More incomprehensible words, beautiful promises, entertaining pictures. And for safety, there is a complex instruction such as "do not pour additives", "do not change fuel", etc. The third plus - for your money you are reminded once again of the general rules for servicing the engine: change oil, candles, wires in time - and everything will be fine.

We are not going to impose our conclusions on readers. You can purchase ASA, observe the behavior of free radicals in life, and then share your feelings. And you can trust the results of our though pedantic, but in good faith tests …


The octane number (OC) is the most important characteristic of gasolines in terms of detonation resistance, that is, their ability to withstand spontaneous ignition under the influence of a pressure wave generated in the combustion chamber during fuel combustion.

The magnitude of the octane number is determined by comparing the detonation intensity of the test fuel in comparison with a reference having a fixed octane number. Such a fuel is obtained by mixing two reference hydrocarbons with the known HF - n-heptane (HF = 0.0) and isooctane (HF = 100.0).
