Somewhere there, a few hours of flight remained unfinished business, concerns, and here the sea, beautiful weather and a stylish novelty: the Opel Astra Twin Top coupe-cabriolet. An open car - pampering, poorly compatible with your usual life? This is how to look: here practical hatchbacks, sedans, station wagons seem too ordinary, deprived of a festive mood. Rather than sitting in an iron box, it is better to fold the roof and roll yourself under the buzz of servos, bathing in envious glances.
TWO IN ONE
The idea of a convertible coupe is generally not new. Having become fashionable, the segment of such cars is rapidly replenishing with new models. The creators sought to make something special out of the ordinary “Astra,” focusing primarily on appearance. Clean, simple lines of the front of the body, a stylish sloping roof, evoking memories of another "opelevsky" coupe - "Caliber". And at the same time, chopped facets of a powerful stern …. But it turned out beautifully!
Armed with new gamma of modern gasoline engines (1.6–2.0 liters, 105–200 hp), including two charged turbo versions. In some trim levels, a specially tuned, adaptive chassis (Interactive Driving Sistem) is designed to provide excellent handling. From this perspective, Astra Twin Top is more of an application for a full-fledged sports coupe, rather than just a beautiful vehicle for an individualist.
At the same time, the car is not without practicality. A large wheelbase (2614 mm) made it possible to make the cabin comfortable enough for four adult riders. The “transformer" itself is also interesting - a three-section folding roof. Its details are compact, therefore, according to the company, even with a folded top Astra boasts a roomy luggage compartment.

Coupe or Convertible
Like a visor of a baseball cap, a windshield frame looms ahead, a massive interior mirror right in front of your eyes. I always try to slide down from a comfortable, moderately tight-fitting seat, in order to at least slightly improve my visibility. Moreover, the turn follows the turn.
The motor, obviously a little constrained by the requirements of Euro IV, is in no hurry to demonstrate the speed of 140 “horses” - it speeds up the car confidently, but rather monotonously. But where is the anger, character inherent in the energetic appearance of a coupe-cabriolet? So far, the application is supported by sound handling, brakes and actively “itchy” steering wheel and gearbox lever. Yes, the vibrations here are definitely a bit too much.
But the tachometer needle is getting close to 5000. It seems that there is nothing to wait - and then the mournful song of the engine turns into a mighty roar, “Astra” rushes forward with new energy, finally showing what it is capable of. Now this is a real athlete. Suspension though stiff, but hold the road securely.
Twenty to thirty seconds, and I'm in a gig. Without a roof, the vibrations in the cabin became noticeably less, and the engine is not so audible against the noise of dissected air. I don’t feel like rushing headlong - I prefer to slowly roll, surveying the surroundings. The behavior of the car has not changed much, the only not very pleasant observation is the vibration of the windshield frame on small irregularities. They are clearly visible thanks to the same mirror looming before your eyes. Of course, there were more drafts in the cabin, but with a breeze it’s more fun!
The fastest 200-horsepower "Astra" meets underlined with rough leather seats, boasts a six-speed "mechanics" and an adaptive chassis with the ability to adjust the damping ability of the suspension (Sport mode). The car is much better brought in terms of noise and vibration. A thoroughbred roar is heard in the sound of the motor, and its capabilities are revealed in a completely different way. At 2500–3000 rpm, convenient high-torque performance is replaced by powerful acceleration …
And then you remember the “Sport” button. It was enough to press the toggle switch, as the ability of the suspension and the engine came to the desired correspondence, giving you complete confidence. "Astra Twin Top" becomes a real sports coupe, pleasing mutual understanding in fast corners.
IN EUROPE AND IN RUSSIA
Practical Germans promised a new convertible coupe at a price of 23, 650 euros (approximately $ 28, 500). The firm claims that versions with the most popular engines are from 100 to 150 hp. will be 3, 000 euros cheaper than the nearest competitors. You will not say anything - it is tempting … but it is in Europe.
Everything is foggy so far. Cars may appear in the summer (logical!), But prices have not yet been determined. In general, it is very similar to the situation with another transformer - “Opel-Tiger” (ЗР, 2004, No. 10). If the "twin tops" will be actively bought in the West, they will not appear in Russia soon. Oh, and it all started so festively: the sea, the sun and Astra Twin Top.
