Others are more likely prototypes of production models, the differences from which are often “decorative” and far-fetched. Their task is to rekindle the curiosity of the public when a production car must wait another year.
There are still machines - technology demonstrators, where the latest units are hidden behind the futuristic look, and even frank “disinfectors” whose task is to send competitors on the wrong track and gain some time to prepare a completely different model.
Volkswagen Concept A is already interesting because it is difficult to classify. Moderate avant-garde of design, proven Golf platform, four-wheel drive, original high-tech motors. Options include 1.4-liter petrol with direct injection and “twin” TSI (twincharger mechanical and turbocharger), 2-liter petrol with direct injection and turbocharger FSI Turbo, as well as a two-liter TDI turbodiesel. Power range - from 150 to 200 hp
According to the creators, the style of the front end resembles a cheetah, and the silhouette of the body (its length is 4.35 m) indicates the undoubted belonging to the coupe. Twenty-inch wheels with 285 mm wide tires are maximally extended outward, which, along with short overhangs, increases visual athleticism. In general, there is a successful attempt to create the image of a sports and at the same time all-weather and all-terrain vehicle. At the same time, they sought to fully use the technological potential of the concern and not neglect rational considerations, where Volkswagen has always been known as a leader.
Need more temperament? Add ice, fire and water to the presentation program, cold shades to the decoration materials, aggressiveness to the appearance, and for the photo we choose the northern landscape. And the obedience to the ability of the marketing service, consciousness itself will complete the image of a fearless and a little harsh conqueror of open spaces. The psychological characteristics of the perception of the concept should not be discounted - after all, emotions are better than facts, confirm and refute judgments …
Attempts to combine a coupe and an all-terrain vehicle in one car have recently been made frequently. But the concept, that is, serial, has not been confirmed. Attempts to “Suzuki” and “Izuzu” were commercially less successful than suggested by the initial reaction. However, this still does not mean anything - success does not come to an idea, but to its worthy embodiment. It is for him that the Concept A consciousness must prepare.
It hardly looks like a future Volkswagen SUV, which will be shown in Frankfurt next fall. Of course, a real car will look more prosaic. But many of the stylistic and technical solutions shown in Concept A will undoubtedly find their embodiment. I’ll venture to suggest that it will be a “SUV” that makes the most use of the technique of the “Golf” platform. Perhaps the new car will receive both a five- and a three-door body, the latter with a more “sporty” appearance.
