There they served almost flawlessly, they seem to fail here for seemingly no reason. It seems that the time allotted for the refinement of this car, the plant thoroughly underestimated. We got excited!..
Our “berry” barely ran three thousand kilometers (far from the worst roads!) - and the front shock absorbers were already knocking, the steering gear spoke clearly. By the way, with such a defect, inspection without a bribe is a pure utopia. And recently, rear shock absorbers began to rumble.
What should a car owner do - apply for a warranty service? Anyone who has tried it at least once knows: replacing something under warranty in a car is extremely difficult. There, over the years, they have been honing methods of protection against legitimate claims of buyers, and these talents are apparently encouraged by the manufacturer - the unfriendliness of the service cannot be explained only by natural harm!
A lot of people complain to the editor about the knocks of shock absorbers - now not only the "ten", but also the "viburnum". And, of course, for warranty service. True, some still manage to achieve justice, but the trouble is: after not having passed even two or three thousand, the new nodes also begin to "talk" - and the owner asks the classic question: "Where to go to the peasant?"
Recall the first address or recipe: we replace the dubious product of the native supplier with an imported one. Famous companies produce a lot of parts for Russian cars, including repair kits (cartridges, inserts) for shock absorbers. It remains only to put them in the body of standard racks. But … stop! AvtoVAZ was so carried away by the struggle with the "left" manufacturers that it began to equip cars with non-separable (non-repairable) shock absorbers. The circle is closed! To make a rack with a lower bracket and a platform under the spring is quite difficult, expensive. Foreign manufacturers do not “subscribe” to this.
Now, if you still do not have a burning desire to sell a problem car, we will offer our recipe, because there are always enough enthusiasts in our ranks! Why not contact a shock absorber repair company? The proposal to conjure over the novelty became interested in the Samara company System of Technologies, known to car enthusiasts for the upper supports of SS-20 racks.
So, we remove all shock absorbers from the car. They will become collapsible, which will allow you to carefully adjust their characteristics, and subsequently provide maintainability.
The upper part of the rack body was cut off on a lathe (photo 1) - a glass with a nut will be welded here. The operation is very responsible - it is impossible to violate the alignment of parts during welding in any case. In the curved case, the shock absorber will not last long. And since you cannot get the required accuracy on the knee, Samara residents have long developed and use the necessary equipment.
While the Kalinov’s details were being finalized, experts suggested a useful experiment. Equipped the car with units from the "tens": front telescopic racks complete with upper supports SS-20 and rear shock absorbers with springs. Wheel alignment is not a problem for Samara citizens - and soon we tested the car on the go. Shock absorbers confidently swallowed uneven surfaces - no knocks, no breakdowns. So, there is one more way out for the owner of Kalina: it’s not necessary to finalize the native parts, you can fork out for “tenths”.
But we decided to keep the standard design of the front strut, including the upper bearing with SKF bearing and a conical spring. Meanwhile, the mechanics dismantled our steering rack. And they immediately found a defect: a "Belleville" spring, pressing the pinion shaft to the rack, contrary to elementary science, managed to sit down. The force unacceptably decreased - hence the knock! With such a spring, tighten the adjusting nut to no avail. The effort on the steering wheel during maneuvering is growing, twisting it is a punishment. The knock weakens slightly, but the steering wheel begins to jam somewhere, when exiting a turn, he reluctantly returns to neutral.
We replaced the “dead” spring with a new one made according to science (photo 2). By the way, you can replace it directly from the passenger compartment, without removing the steering rack, if you previously disconnect the steering shaft. However, this was not the end of the matter. The rail was definitely shot for a reason! I had to replace the guide sleeve (the rail in it moved tightly), and then the pinion shaft. The native detail did not allow to achieve optimal engagement: either the steering wheel is too tight, then there is play. Meanwhile, she was not defective. The mechanic explained that a careful selection is required here, and he took up this. The result is excellent. And our shaft is still useful for selection to another rail, with which, in turn, it will work normally.
When assembling the assembly, the parts were well lubricated. (It is curious that not only Russian factories, but also some abroad, strive to save on lubricant!)
But what did you do with the front struts? Let's start with the compression valve (photo 3). Its spring, despite the low mileage of the car, also unacceptably sagged (photo 4). Can it be that manufacturers do not comply with technology requirements at all? The result is obvious: the valve disc presses the discs weaker against its body - the shock absorber is disrupted, it knocks. It remains only to replace the ill-fated spring with another, conditional.
But the main innovation from Samara is a piston. In the standard version, it has a split sealing ring (photo 5): when the shock absorber is working, it constantly moves between the piston flanges, the edges of the ring wear out, the gap increases and the shock absorber starts to knock. A fluoroplastic sleeve is rigidly fixed on the modified piston (photo 6).
