Despite the attractiveness of automotive technology in the mid-twentieth century, the rejection of them is natural. The requirements of Euro II finally became binding on Russia, followed by Euro III, then Euro IV. In fact, each conscious motorist will have to radically change his own worldview, making it the basis not of “racing” ambitions, cultivated for a century, but a careful attitude to civilization. The amount and composition of automobile engine emissions are now limited by extremely tight limits - even if there is some loss of dynamic performance.

We will be able to achieve the fulfillment of such requirements only by raising the level of service. Of course, “motorists” who have not lost their curiosity will not be hurt by “extra” knowledge. At least in an applied sense: a literate person is less likely to be deceived by unscrupulous masters, and this is always true.

So to the point. Today, VAZ cars are produced with a Bosch M7.9.7 controller. Combined with an optional exhaust gas oxygen sensor and rough road sensor, this ensures compliance with Euro III and Euro IV. Of course, now the number of monitored parameters has increased. We’ll tell you about them, assuming that we, you or the diagnostician from the service are armed with a scanner - for example, DST-10 (DST-2).

Let's start with temperature sensors: there are two of them. The first is on the outlet pipe of the cooling system (photo 1). According to his testimony, the controller estimates the temperature of the liquid before starting the engine - TMST (° C), its values ​​during heating - TMPT (° C). The second sensor measures the temperature of the air entering the cylinders, TANS (° C). It is installed in the housing of the mass air flow sensor. (Hereinafter, the abbreviations highlighted are the same as in the official repair manuals.)

Does the role of these sensors need to be explained for a long time? Imagine that the controller is deceived by the low readings of the TMOT, and the engine is actually already warmed up. The problems will begin! The controller will increase the nozzle opening time, trying to enrich the mixture - the result will immediately detect the oxygen sensor and “knock” the controller about an error. The controller will try to fix it, but here again the wrong temperature intervenes …

The value of TMST before starting, among other things, is important for assessing the operation of the thermostat according to the engine warm-up time. By the way, if you have not used the car for a long time, that is, the engine temperature has equaled the air temperature (taking into account the storage conditions!), It is very useful to compare the readings of both sensors before starting. They must be the same (tolerance ± 2 ° C).

But what happens if both sensors are disabled? After start-up, the TMOT value is calculated by the controller according to the algorithm embedded in the program. And the TANS value is equal to 33 ° C for an 8-valve 1.6 liter engine and 20 ° C for a 16-valve. Obviously, the health of this sensor is very important during cold start, especially in cold weather.

The next important parameter is the voltage in the on-board network UB. Depending on the type of generator, it can lie between 13.0 and 15.8 V. The controller receives + 12 V power in three ways: from the battery, the ignition switch and the main relay. From the latter, he calculates the voltage in the control system and, if necessary (in case of a decrease in the voltage in the network) increases the time of energy storage in the ignition coils and the duration of the fuel injection pulses.

The value of the current vehicle speed is displayed on the scanner in the form of VFZG. Estimates its speed sensor (on the gearbox - photo 2) by the frequency of rotation of the differential housing (error of not more than ± 2%) and informs the controller. Of course, this speed should practically coincide with that shown by the speedometer - its cable drive is a thing of the past.

If the minimum idle speed of a warm engine is above normal, check the degree of opening of the throttle valve WDKBA, expressed as a percentage. In the closed position (photo 3) - zero, in fully open - from 70 to 86%. It must be borne in mind that this is a relative value associated with the damper position sensor, not the angle in degrees! (On older models, 100% corresponded to full throttle opening.) In practice, if the WDKBA is not lower than 70%, adjust the drive mechanics, bend something, etc. not necessary.

When the inductor is closed, the controller remembers the voltage supplied from the DPDZ (0.3–0.7 V) and stores it in a volatile memory. It is useful to know if you are changing the sensor yourself. In this case, remove the terminal from the battery. (In the service, they use a diagnostic tool for initialization.) Otherwise, the changed signal from the new DPS can deceive the controller - and the idle speed will not correspond to the norm.

In general, the controller determines the frequency of rotation of the crankshaft with some discreteness. Up to 2500 rpm, the measurement accuracy of 10 rpm is NMOTLL, and the entire range, from the minimum to the limiter, is evaluated by the NMOT parameter with a resolution of 40 rpm. To assess the condition of the engine, higher accuracy in this range is not required.

Almost all engine parameters are somehow connected with the air flow in its cylinders, controlled by a mass air flow sensor (DMRV - photo 4). This indicator, expressed in kilograms per hour (kg / h), is indicated as ML. Example: a new non-rolled, 8-valve 1.6-liter engine, when idle, warms up 9.5–13 kg of air per hour. As the running-in with a decrease in friction losses, this figure decreases significantly - by 1.3 - 2 kg / h. Proportionally smaller and gas mileage. Of course, the rotation resistance of the water and oil pumps and the generator also affects, during operation, somewhat affecting the air flow. At the same time, the controller calculates the theoretical value of the MSNLLSS air flow for specific conditions - the crankshaft speed, the temperature of the coolant. This is the flow of air that must enter the cylinders through the idle channel. A healthy engine has a slightly larger ML than MSNLLSS - by the amount of overflows through the throttle gaps. A faulty engine, of course, may have situations where the estimated air flow is greater than the actual one.
