VS: The latest production model of the VAZ - VAZ-1118 Kalina, in my opinion, is quite modern. At a price of 230 thousand rubles. ($ 8, 200) she has many advantages, for which you can forgive small flaws, if any. But who does not have them?
The car is clearly gravitating to the urban class: compact, with a high "bus" landing of the driver and passengers, ease of entry and exit through wide swing open doors. At the same time with a fairly capacious trunk, high ground clearance and small overhangs. The latter in our conditions is not superfluous. Many in the family have one car, so versatility is very important. “Viburnum” here is a very successful combination. It is convenient in the city, fast and comfortable in country trips, and the country side is much more confident than the low foreign cars. Try on the Peugeot 206 to drive into the curb or turn off the asphalt - you will instantly be left without a front bumper. And his repair will fly into a pretty penny! More precisely - in the Eurocentric, much more significant. No, our car is both initially cheaper and more practical to operate.
A. S.: You can, of course, pretend that domestic cars are only a little inferior to modern foreign cars. You can throw a lot of money into the VAZ in the hope that he will indeed create a competitive model in the foreseeable future. Alas, I do not believe it! Today, an abyss separates us from the leaders in global automotive industry.
Over the seven-plus years of release of the 206th, more than five million people bought it. In my opinion, quite a weighty argument! Someone will doubt: there was a successful advertising campaign and what can’t be done for the sake of fashion and image! But there are objective advantages of the car, especially against the background of "Kalina".
With a significant difference in price in favor of Kalina, the consumer qualities of both cars are very close. There are no complaints about ergonomics: excellent visibility, convenient controls, electric power steering, precise gear shifting with a locking ring for the rear - by chance, as you did in the “tens”, you won’t turn it on! Additional amenities include power windows and an extensive range of seat and steering column adjustments.
In addition to its direct purpose - transportation of people, Kalina on the shoulder and ordinary household chores. Roomy interior, doors that open almost at right angles allow you to load a TV or a small refrigerator into the car.
The 1.6-liter eight-valve motor is very traction and strong enough for a small car, but in the end - good adaptability to different driving modes and excellent dynamics. I will add more - low fuel consumption and confident start-up in the cold. What else is required?
The chassis design is also very good - in any case, I have no complaints about handling and stability. I hope the security is up to standard. A strong power frame of the passenger capsule and developed thresholds should, in case of an accident, if God forbid it happens, leave as many chances as possible to avoid serious injuries.
An important advantage of the machine is the ease of maintenance and repair, and the availability of branded services. Wherever you live, you can always find technical assistance, the necessary spare parts in your country, and get maintenance. The latter, by the way, is cheaper compared to a foreign car.
A. S.: Everyone chooses a car of their own mind. I proceeded from the fact that the most important parameters for me are safety, reliability, comfort, economy in a reasonable combination of them. None of ours, including Kalina, according to my ideas, adequately meets these requirements. Unless the price is lower. To call a VAZ car a modern language does not turn, if only because there is not a single airbag in it! What time are you ready to evaluate the integrity of your neck?
There is no need to talk about the ergonomics of the “Peugeot 206” - of course, everything is done as it should and works properly. There is a power steering, air conditioning, four airbags. The interior space and seat adjustments are enough to make me quite comfortable at the wheel with a height of 186 cm, and there is enough room for passengers. The trunk, of course, is somewhat inferior in size, but I don’t need to carry bales with manufactory, and if I have to, I can install an additional one on the roof. (There isn’t such a thing for Kalina yet.) But it’s more convenient to use the trunk - with the rear seats folded down, you can load a 29-inch TV. Try to do it on Kalina.
Engine capacity of 1.4 liters and a capacity of 75 liters. with. provides a light car (curb weight of only 950 kg) a quite decent dynamics (acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 14.1 s) and a maximum speed of 173 km / h. (The Kalina has 1080 kg, 13 s and 170 km / h, respectively.)
Low ground clearance, 140 mm against 160, for everyday use in the city is quite sufficient, and if you ride on the curbs, it is better to buy a "Niva". By the way, the car is moving along the country quite confidently, but I do not need to drive along the aisles of the potato field.
A narrow “dokatka” hidden under the rear overhang is a reasonable alternative to a full-size reserve. The inconvenience is one - it is always dirty, fortunately, I have not had to use it yet. Just lucky, but for an urban lifestyle, this decision is justified.
Talking about the exorbitant high cost of operating the machine, I still could not find confirmation, and taking into account its economy and reliability, it turns out about the same as that of Kalina. Body repair associated with the replacement of panels, of course, is more expensive. Only for this there is insurance. And in a serious accident, due to the significantly greater safety of Peugeot, there is a chance that treatment will cost much cheaper. (We are not considering the extreme case here.)
VS: The build quality of Kalina is, of course, not ideal, but noticeably higher than the tenth. The heater in my car is still working flawlessly (train on the top ten, you attach special importance to this), the body panels are fitted almost European, and the color is completely at a level.
There are, of course, complaints. Fortunately, it hasn’t touched me yet, but the rumor spreads quickly. Most likely, the water pump will flow, the ball bearings will rattle, the racks and the starter will “die”. On the service, maybe something will be repaired under warranty, but for how long? Accessories from one “barrel”. The practice of experienced hints: to cure these diseases need 1.5 thousand dollars. Then, they say, “the music will go wrong!” I realize that the argument is not perfect, but the initial savings of more than four thousand dollars, I hope, will convince a significant portion of our readers to choose Kalina. Note, at the very least, VAZ sells its seven hundred thousand cars in Russia! And their customers are calm that they will not have to look for half a vacation on a trip, for example, to replace a broken windshield.
A.S.: Yes, it is still more difficult to find spare parts for a car somewhere in the outback, and the specialized service is much less developed, but in big cities this is not so relevant. And the convenience of maintenance and repair is secondary - I do not plan to sort out the power unit at home.
Of course, the initial difference in the price of new cars is quite significant - about $ 4000, only this money was not thrown to the wind, but given for a truly modern car.
And you say - "Kalina"! Perhaps she will someday become a normal car, only, apparently, "I will not have to live in this wonderful time either for you or for me." My opponent is modest - by 13 thousand on his Kalina the front wheel bearing, the primary gearbox shaft and the reverse gear were already changed, the free-wheeling of the vacuum brake booster was regulated, the Tosola leak was eliminated from the heater hoses, the rear window heating was restored, the locks were adjusted door, oil flowed from under the screw of the pressure reducing valve - the screw turned out to be a curve, the cracked generator belt was replaced. And this is on a practically new car! VAZ traditionally continues to run the technology on customers. That's why I am for a foreign car.
