Models LF50ST-3 (II) and Robinson are the smallest, designed for children and adolescents. An adult, if he is not a giant, will fit behind the wheel at the wheel, but he still feels at ease. The children's quadric "Robinson" has been produced since 2001 (a test with another 2-stroke engine was published in Moto, No. 8-2003). The current one is already the third modification. It has a Chinese 4-stroke engine with an electric starter and automatic clutch, larger tires than its predecessor, new mirrors and steering knobs.

Plastic cladding, which looked good a couple of years ago, looks simple today. And the direct duties - protection from water and dirt - are carried out on the "C grade". You will not praise the footwells either.

On the steering wheel, handles with remotes are Chinese, they are motorcycle, they look decent. On the right handle is a “stop” engine. Another device for turning off the motor is “separation”: if a young pilot falls off, a key attached with a cord to the child’s hand will be pulled out of the lock and the circuit will open - the engine will stall.

Speedometer is not provided here. On a small dashboard (it looks like, it must be admitted, handicraft) he couldn’t find a place. The number of the “working” gear (or neutral) is displayed, which cannot be called an excess: all the gears (four of them) are switched in one direction, and if a rider who rides a train sits behind the wheel, he will not remember from habit that he cut down. The tidy also contained the indicator lights for turning on the “flashing lights” and the turn signals and the main beam headlights.

I start the engine with an electric starter (“in reserve” there is also a kick), the engine runs quietly. Its small power (less than 3 hp) and automatic grip, it would seem, should create difficulties when starting in difficult, for example, ground, conditions or when driving on a very steep mountain. In this case, the “machine” does not allow the motor to “spin up” and reach the maximum power mode. I came across this on imported children's quadrics - it is impossible to get underway. At Robinson, the “automatic” can be fooled: the fact is that when shifting gears, the lever also squeezes the clutch. This control system is called semi-automatic - it is familiar to motorcyclists who have traveled on Java, Izh-Jupiters and Dnieper. So, if, having switched on the first speed, hold the gear lever with your foot and give full throttle, then the engine speed will increase. When you release the lever, starting will occur at higher speeds, and hence power.

"Shod" "Robinson" in Chinese tires. They look solid, and quite fastidious. The wheel suspensions are set up in such a way that not only a child of average fatness, but also an adult driver (if he, again, is not a Gargantua build) will feel quite comfortable. But there is also the possibility of changing the stiffness of the suspension.

The brake system is combined, as required by the new Russian standard: the front brake is driven by a lever on the steering wheel, and the foot acts on all four wheels. Drive - with cables. The design, of course, is not so hot, but the system copes with the low weight of the machine and its speed.

Good off-road patency is greatly facilitated by the fact that the width of the car is small - it will crawl along the pedestrian path next to the paved track of the road where a large ATV will sit. Yes, and in case of which it is easy to pull out: by hand: the front and rear handles are convenient to hold on to them, and the weight is less than 100 kg.

But at the same time, at a speed with a sharp turn of the steering wheel, overturning a quadric is not so simple. It turned out that Robinson is very stable due to its low mass and low center of gravity - parents may not worry about their children.

Quadric LF50ST-3 (II) is technically quite a perfect machine, much more interesting in design than the Robinson. The motor, which has already become a "classic in Chinese, " a 4-stroke "fifty dollars" with a clutch, "automatic". The reverse gear was "implanted" in the Communist Party, but 4th gear was sacrificed for the sake of it. The reverse is engaged with the same foot as the forward gears. Another innovation is a bevel gear for cardan transmission to the rear continuous axle. At the rear axle, as in adult ATVs, a drainage tube departs from the breather to the air filter - this is the ford quadric and is not afraid. And in a very modern way, a disc brake is installed on the axle - not some kind of a fool with a mechanical drive (which is characteristic of machines of a more solid class), but a full-fledged 1-piston floating bracket. Monoshock, although without progression (that would be too much!), But with hydraulics and five provisions for adjusting the spring preload.

This ATV is equipped with "adult" steering wheel controls and even mirrors - and this is completely uncommon for four-wheeled vehicles. The most solid handle is on the left. On it, in addition to the traditional light switch of the headlights, “flashing lights” switches (the machine is equipped with direction indicators!) And a signal, the rear brake lever lock, the carburetor enrichment drive and the engine stop button are also installed. On the right, the remote control is simpler - a gas trigger, an electric starter button.

In the case of a round speedometer mounted indicator lamps of neutral, gear, reverse, high beam, battery charge level. Under the scale is a liquid crystal mileage counter and an arrow speed indicator.

The front wheel suspension is double wishbone. Such a perfect design has not recently been used on small machines. But she is not a luxury here - she doesn’t shake her soul on an uneven track.

Headlights as many as three. Two forms resemble a cat's eye, they are successfully inscribed in the exterior of the front end. The third is mounted on top and rotates with the steering wheel. The front “emergency lights” are hidden so carefully that you won’t notice them at once. * Appearance is catchy, predatory, which is typical of modern large ATVs.

Since the quadric is still childish, its base is small. And then the protection of the legs especially increases in price (from getting them under the wheels or slipping off the footrests). But it is not at all clear why there is not at least some kind of motor protection - from the same dirt. But a carburetor is also required (which “looks” forward: it is located exactly between the front wheels), but it is not covered by anything.

On the go, quadrics are yurok and easy to manage. Power is not enough, but let's not forget who it is intended for. As in Robinson, it provides for the possibility, thanks to the semi-automatic clutch release, to "deceive" the centrifugal control mechanism.

For all the “tricked out" design, it cannot be said that the LF50ST-3 (II) patency is better than the Robinson’s. Miracles do not happen: with the same power and torque of the motor, a “purebred Chinese” is one and a half times heavier than “ours”.

ATV Tarpan is intended for adults. It evolved from Russia's first 4-wheel motorcycle ZDK-175 4ShP, which saw the light in 1992. The current appearance and the name “Tarpan” appeared at the end of 2002, when the rear wheel suspension was introduced into the design (the test was published in “Moto”, No. 3-2003). Last year, the two-stroke engine gave way to the Chinese four-stroke.

The fuel tank and the seat - from the "Owl", the headlights - from the "Pilot", roomy trunks front and rear. Facing - average scall: they are made of plastic ABS, notorious for its fragility.
