The main problem of gas buses is the placement of cylinders. You can’t hide them in the low-floor city "under the skirt", there is only one free place - the roof. A considerable cargo - four aluminum-composite cylinders of 320 liters each weigh 675 kg plus the gas itself - 200 kg. And all this at a height of three meters! But there are no tanks and diesel fuel. Total “Omni Link” weighted 575 kg, but if the cylinders were steel, the roof would have definitely failed.

Safe operation of the gas "Omni" is solved in the complex and begins with cylinders. On each, except for the mechanical main valve, an electromagnetic one is mounted. It closes when the engine is turned off, or in an accident, receiving a signal from the collision sensor. If the tube breaks, the methane emission will stop the high-speed valve, and in case of fire, the gas will go through three thermal valves, they will work at 110 ° C. In addition, fire detectors are mounted in the engine compartment and will warn the driver about a fire, and the automation will turn off the fuel supply.

The Scania-OS960 gas engine is based on a 9-liter DC 903 with a power range from 230 to 310 liters. S., known in Russia for the first "griffins" and buses "Omni". The engine has changed valve timing, pistons and now with cylinder head candles. Due to the lower power, the load on the engine parts decreased, and in addition, the gas does not wash off the oil film from the cylinder walls. Therefore, the engine life will be no less than that of its diesel prototype.

Leaving the cylinders, the gas is cleaned in the filter and enters the high pressure reducer. Further, almost to atmospheric pressure, the pressure reduces the next gearbox. The fuel supply to the cylinders is dosed by electronically controlled equipment, which is structurally similar to the injection system of gasoline engines.

The ignition system is also electronic, without a distributor, with its own coil for each cylinder and an increased secondary circuit voltage. This is done due to the higher ignition temperature of the air-gas mixture and the increased resistance of the spark gap of the candles.

Thanks to the electronics that monitor the composition of the mixture, turbocharging with an intercooler, a high degree of compression, the engine is very economical: the specific fuel consumption is only 192 g / kWh, like a good turbodiesel! The price of methane is 6 rubles per cubic meter, moreover, the “gas” exhaust is already cleaner today than the Euro V standards for diesel engines that are unattainable for us. Only the concentration of NOx is comparable, and carbon monoxide is 20 times less. And no soot.
