[/caption] Together with me here is the Russian champion in the ring Alexander Sotnikov and rally champion Alexander Nikonenko. It is interesting to look at them close on the track when they are driving. The sports VAZ-11193-37 and Citroen C2 VTS arrived specially here for us on car carriers. Another participant in the Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 races, although a sports car, came to the track on their own. In addition to 320 km / h on the speedometer, he has enough other ambitions. Take at least 6.1 that were not implemented in the city from acceleration from zero to hundreds. But here, on the sports track, all the salt is not in acceleration in a straight line, but in how to keep high speed in a turn and further on a big circle and during the whole race.
At the first glance it is already clear that the sports Kalina and Citroen will play on their field, and the Chrysler is not quite, although it is called a sports car. It’s a pity: he was taken as one of the best representatives of the capital’s fleet of vehicles, able to drive the speedometer to the right at the first call of the owner.
… I've never been so carefully equipped. A suit, helmet, gloves, boots made of the most modern materials - everything is perfectly fitted.
Slowly, I get into a metal capsule.
- Can you breathe? - a conscientious assistant pulls me to a special chair with mighty belts.

- Then everything is fine, you’ll still get some work.
- Put the glasses in the helmet so that the temples lie on your ear. If you are not in place, consider the run for nothing.
“Viburnum” on “slicks” is such a thick cherry - I need to merge with it. I recall what Alexander Sotnikov said: “The most important thing is that the track is perceived as a whole, and not the sum of the individual segments. The trajectory is a literally licked out language, a smooth line, and mastery is the clarity of actions on each circle.” Go!
… On the first lap it was not necessary to drive at all. I "concentrated" with the car, but I forgot about the track and in Russian already pressed the pedal to the floor. “Kalina” reluctantly tried to correct my recklessness and enter the right turn, but its front end carried the entire width of the route to the left edge, and then I was already late everywhere.
Alexander Nikonenko, in my place, would have caught the back of the car with precise taxiing and passed a turn in a controlled drift. But Sotnikov does not bring the rear axle to demolition - it is on the verge of wheel adhesion. This is the difference between the two driving schools. But in that, and in another case - all actions are performed with an obvious margin of time. Why don't I have it? I skip past all the points … Well, not yet on the ground - there is a tough car, as I was warned, could roll over.
I tell myself, forget about emotions - this is a job for the machine. But inside I already feel the barrier, for which I am afraid to cross. I went very slowly, then faster. Sports "Kalina" can go very fast. But now the most important thing is that I lead it myself. A twenty-year experience of driving Lada brand cars came to mind - and the steering wheel no longer seems heavy, the gearshift backlash does not irritate, the noise in the passenger compartment informs about the operation of the engine and suspension. I am increasingly concentrating on already familiar sections of the track. I’m sitting like a monument, almost fused with my back. My fulcrum is the gas pedal. I press on it while I feel the grip of the wheels with the road. It is necessary to calculate the efforts in such a way as to pass the entire turn in this “emphasis”, and then go straight, as from the starting blocks.
And then came the moment of my triumph. In that very turn, where I was so turned around so much at first, now at a higher speed there is time to consider at least three sections of the desired trajectory. I see everything clearly and for a long time. The more we concentrate on this with the machine, the more it seems that there is time to prepare the next control tricks. I accelerate, brake a little, then, as with the heel of my shoes, I turn and jump forward … So I went headlong into work that I slipped an assistant with a red flag - my time with Kalina on the track was over.
After this, rest is necessary. I drink tea and listen to what a professional says about my sample of a pen.
Sotnikov: “You want to understand the little things and this is very important, you collect the result bit by bit. With this approach, the wisdom of racing is comprehended.”
I went to the Citroen, already well understanding the track. I reluctantly parted with Kalina - I sat down, rolled, I also wanted to improve the result. I feel I could. But the apparatus with two chevrons on the grille without ceremony knocked out my entire VAZ mentality from my head. Inside, everything is civilian, you can see right away that he took care of the driver. Less noise, although at first it bothers me. I don’t feel how the car is straining. And she seemed not to strain at all. The engine immediately responds to the gas pedal - and acceleration has begun. Where is the fulcrum here? Oh, sorry, distracted. The tough Citroen, like a real champion, doesn’t forgive such mistakes - it immediately turned me around, as if on a rental card. Sotnikov calls him "zinger", after him you need an eye and an eye. But it unfolds somehow fearlessly, "Kalina" did it on a grand scale. I drove my best circles on the Citroen. It would be wrong to blame Kalina, rather, the driver was the weak link there. At Citroen, I had already forgotten about the steering wheel, and I was only thinking about the connection of the external front wheel loaded in the turn with the gas pedal. Left thoughts on the steering wheel freed up space for more optimal solutions. A little more time appeared for them.
Without a break for rest, I take out 330 “horses” of the stagnant Crossfire. The car accelerates so quickly that it seems that there are not enough brakes. No, they are all right. It was I, easily fastened with one belt to the semi-sports seat, who lost contact with the road. I still remain in the rhythm of the racing Citroen, where the pilot is responsible for everything. And here is full of electronics. A light steering wheel, silence in the passenger compartment, a roll in comparison with even the Kalina body cut me off from an imaginary fulcrum - there is not enough time to find it. Helping the driver to recognize such a powerful and quite comfortable car, the manufacturer equipped it with the most modern stabilization system. As soon as I was mistaken (and I “folil” in all difficult turns), the system turned off the fuel supply, teaching me to drive in a new way. For no reason, if you "hold" the correct path, it does not intervene.
The consultants gave good advice: you can’t put pressure on the gas if the ESP worked, otherwise a powerful leap forward will follow. Then I will deal with this, but in those short races I could not manage the speed correctly. There was not enough time to mentally go from the gas pedal to the wheels. I was very upset with the jealous Fire, showing the worst lap times.
And by the end of the day I was noticeably tired - it's hard to work at maximum without practice, stretching time.
