Streetfighter Aprilia Tuono (translated from Italian “Tuono” - “thunder”) for five years from the birth of the first-born has won many fans: excellent V-Twin, first-class chassis, sophisticated Italian design. Now Tuono R of the new generation is entering the catwalks, it is powered by the Magnesium series motor - like on motorcycles of the modern Aprilia RSV1000R family of sportbikes. What is behind this? Maximum power increased from 125 to 133 hp, and torque - from 96 to 102 Nm. It is nice that at the same time the peak torque values ​​remained the same: 8750 rpm. The running gear has also become more “professional”: in the front now there are brakes with radial brackets and four separate blocks (previously such equipment was available only for the special version of Tuono R Factory).

Sales of the updated streetfighter began in Europe at the end of October.

The Ducati line of straights is so extensive (from the 63-horsepower Monster 620 to the 117-horsepower Monster S4R) that anyone will find a device to their taste and budget. But tireless marketers, paired with the designers of the company, are looking for the smallest consumer clicks in this gamut, so that they can instantly conquer them with a new model. The novelty of the 2006 season is the modification of the Monster S2R 1000 with a 95-horsepower 1000DS engine (familiar from the Monster 1000DS model). However, it is not only the power unit that distinguishes the debutant from the 800-cc version of S2R introduced a year ago. Instead of the unregulated front fork, the Marzocchi is a fully adjustable Showa, and the diameter of the front brake discs is increased from 300 to 320 mm. The equipment of the motorcycle includes 5-spoke Marchesini wheels and a steering wheel made of aluminum alloy with a variable section. The dry weight of the motorcycle is 178 kg.

We have already written (see Moto, No. 9-2005) about the upcoming replacement for the popular Zizer - Kawasaki ZZ-R1200. But the embodiment of the new product was much cooler than all the assumptions! The new sports tourist actually “plays” in the league of hyperbikes. The company, as always, is in no hurry to disclose the figures of the machine’s technical data, but it clearly hints that against its background the attractiveness of the main competitor of the “sizer” - Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa will definitely fade. The hottest heads among Internet experts say that the motor power of a newborn is close to 200 hp!

A study of the design of the new Kawasaki ZZ-R1400 shows that he is not the sibling’s own brother, but the ZX-12R Ninja hyperbike. An in-line 4-cylinder engine (84x61 mm, 1352 cm3) develops a torque of 100 Nm already at 2000 rpm - this is enough to provide powerful acceleration from almost idle to any of six gears. Monocoque aluminum frame - direct development of the unit from the ZX-12R. On the front there is a cartridge adjustable fork of an inverted type (diameter of the supporting pipes - 43 mm), on the back is the Uni-Trak suspension. The brakes with “petal” discs and front radial brackets complete the picture. On request, the brake system is equipped with ABS. The base of the ZZ-R1400 is larger than the ZX-12R, but smaller than the ZZ-R1200.

Fans of cruisers will receive an updated “junior” Vulcan in the new season: the working volume of its V-shaped “two” has increased from 805 to 903 cm. The new engine is equipped with a dual-throttle fuel injection system, 4-valve cylinder heads and liquid cooling. Drive to the rear wheel with a toothed belt. The machine is available in two versions: the base Vulcan 900 Classic and the tourist Vulcan 900 Classic LT; the latter comes with a windshield, luggage bags, a backrest for a passenger.

The third gift from Kawasaki is a version of the latest ER-6n roadster (see Moto, No. 9-2005) with a cowl covering the front of the car.

This Italian company is a hostage to traditions: and you want to do something like that, but suddenly the brand’s adherents don’t understand … You can take a chance and try to accustom it, but the risk requires money, and the company does not have much with them. These two considerations (I suspect the second prevails) and pushed back the premiere of the production version of the Griso technocast, the prototype of which has been roaming the exhibitions for more than a year. But, finally, it happened: the debut of the production version was announced.

Actually, this car is practically no different from the prototype shown last fall in Munich. The engine is a traditional V-shaped “deuce” of air cooling, with 2-valve cylinder heads and fuel injection. In its parameters (1064 cm3, 88.1 hp at 7600 rpm) it is closer not to the traditional “custom” Moto Guzzi California motors (which give out just 75 hp), but to street power units Le Mans series. And the chassis is not at all in chopper traditions: fully adjustable suspensions front and rear, front 320 mm brake discs, 17-inch alloy wheels. But all this is combined with a rather long base (1554 mm) and a serious mass (227 kg). However, a bright appearance redeems everything. Since the prototype has already become familiar at exhibitions, the grumbling among adherents of the Griso traditions will no longer cause. But Moto Guzzi is capable of attracting new buyers to the showrooms.

Stubbornly circulating rumors about the upcoming update of the GSX-R600 and GSX-R750 sportbikes have received official confirmation. Although the novelties are made in a single stylistic key, inspired by the appearance of the flagship GSX-R1000, they do not copy it at all. The shape of the cut-outs in the fairing is quite peculiar, but more importantly, instead of the massive “canister” of the muffler, a “shorty” is installed on the right in the style of the latest racing motorcycles. On the other hand, the designers could not resist and transferred such "generic features" of the older brother, such as the characteristic drawing of the headlights and front direction indicators, implanted in the mirrors.

But let's move on to the filling. There are no exact data on engine power, but the degree of its growth can be judged by indirect parameters. So, the diameter of the intake duct diffusers for the “six hundred” has grown from 38 to 40 mm. The GSX-R750 even has a different dimension - 70x48.7 mm instead of 72x46. Which testifies, and do not doubt, about more than a serious modernization of the motor. The adjustability of the steering is evidenced by the fact that the angle of the steering column is increased by half a degree, so that the reach increased from 93 to 97 mm. The base is 10 mm larger than last year's options (total - 1, 400 mm), but the saddle is seated - from 825 to 810 mm. There is no data on the dry weight, but company representatives assure: new products are easier.

The modernization also affected the 1200-cc version of the Suzuki Bandit roadster: outwardly, it became similar to the 650-cc counterpart, which was updated a year ago. As with the GSF650, seat height is now adjustable between 785 - 805 mm. Bandit 1200 added in the wheelbase (from 1430 to 1480 mm), but at the same time “lost” 3 kg.

The long-awaited sensation: and the little Daytona goes on three cylinders! With a needle, the new 675 cc engine develops 123 hp, it is substantially narrower than the old 650 cc “four”, and the engines of the Japanese “six hundred”. This despite the fact that the dry weight (164 kg) is quite at the level of competitors from Japan. The chassis design has also “pulled up”: the front of the Triumph Daytona 675 has a fully adjustable inverted telescopic fork and Nissin brakes with radial brackets. Will the British with the “troika” succeed that which failed with the “four”?

Two premieres and in the retro sector. The Triumph Rocket III Classic has been finalized “for the Americans”: the handlebars are pulled back, large platforms are underfoot, and the back is at the back. And made in the style of the 60s, Triumph Bonneville Scrambler copies the ancestors of modern dual-use motorcycles.

The concern gushes with novelties: in addition to updated sportbikes and roadsters (see Moto, No. 10-2005), Europe saw two more motorcycles of completely different concepts.

Actually, the Yamaha MT-03 did not cause any doubts about its imminent appearance. Flashed two years ago, everyone liked the prototype so much that they began to replicate it at a pace in the form of production cars. The main units, including an engine with a power of 45 hp, are taken from the Yamaha XT660. But MT-03 is one of those bikes for which appearance is much more important than technical stuffing. Evaluate at least the location of the shock absorber rear suspension: it is to the right of the engine! 17-inch wheels, moderate suspension travel (130/120 mm), 2-disc front brake - all this suggests that the element of the debutant is city streets.

The big cruiser, which debuted in the USA in the summer under the name Star Roadliner (see Moto, No. 8-2005), in Europe got the name Yamaha XV1900 Midnight Star. The V-shaped engine (1854 cm3, 100 hp at 4250 rpm) is installed in a duplex frame made of aluminum alloy. An interesting feature of the motor is a unique balancing system with side balancer shafts. She allowed to install the power unit in the frame rigidly. It is also interesting that the exhaust system is equipped with an EXUP power valve - the first time for a motorcycle of this class. Drive to the rear wheel with a toothed belt. The machine weighs 320 kg. But the tourist version (in the USA - Star Stratoliner) will not be in Europe yet.
