The popularity of the “foreign-made” tire dimension 195 / 65R15 is growing every year, and this time they are the object of our traditional tests.

As in the previous test of 13-inch tires, we divided them into two "classes" - with and without spikes.

Studded. Nokian HKPL 4 managed to maintain last year's leadership, but the "pursuers" got very close to them. Last year, the leader scored more than 950 points and the difference with the closest competitor was almost 75, now Nokian has 920, and Michelin already has 900.

The Pirelli Carving also significantly improved, gaining 874 (in the past there were 847). It is a pity that this year the traditionally strong winter tires Gislaved Nord Frost 3 and Conti Winter Viking 1 were not present. They would certainly affect the results of the award sheet.

Non-studded tires are announced by a new and very strong composition. We note two points. The first is that their grip on ice turned out to be no worse than “spikes,” and some even got better (even if it showed up only in the cold, it still deserves praise).

And the second - the first five fit into the interval of only 40 points, that is, five percent!

It seems that a trend has emerged among modern tires - all indicators that can be measured objectively, come together and are aligned, the differences remain only in characters.

A separate group, albeit a more modest one, were tires for a low-snowy Central European winter, oriented primarily to snow-free roads. It’s just the right time to introduce another nomination, although it is impossible to draw a clear line between the tires for “black” and “white” roads.

The price / quality ratio is obtained by dividing the tire price in rubles by the points accumulated in our test.

On a snowy road at the time of starting, they bury themselves, but then briskly disperse the car - "the more gas, the better." On ice, they prefer a small slip.

Good stability of the car when braking, clearly felt the beginning of the ABS. In a turn there is a small skid that practically does not require adjustment (helps drive the car). On the arc are very well controlled and steering and gas. They float a little on dense snow porridge, and loose snow is cut through like a mill.

Touching, moving in deep snow and going back are very good. Tires are hard, track all the bumps in the road.

Last year’s leader in our test stood this time. Almost everywhere is excellent or very good! However, considering that the superiority over the nearest competitors is insignificant, tires are unreasonably expensive.

Very high grip on snow and ice, better braking on asphalt, excellent cross-country ability, high fuel efficiency.

The level of comfort, the course on the pavement leaves much to be desired. High price.

Highly recommended for icy, snowy and poorly cleared roads.

Moving on this Michelin will be the most successful only pulling, acceleration - with a slight slipping. There is a slight delay in the reaction of the car to the steering wheel turn, so the speed at the “rearrangement” is moderate.

Otherwise, the tires are very good, balanced. Of course, you do not get such pleasure as from Nokian HKPL 4, but driving on snowy roads is very reliable. The only small drawback is that when driving along a winding road in loose snow, the combination of a number of driver actions can lead to an unexpected drift. When moving in deep snow, they go forward sluggishly. It seems that the front wheels abut in the snow and the car is about to get up, but they drive back very confidently.

Tires came close to the leader, Nokian HKPL 4. (The gap between the leaders from 75 points narrowed to 20.) On the ice, they even slightly outperformed it in longitudinal coupling properties, slightly inferior in the snow.

Very good grip on ice and snow, good maneuverability, high fuel efficiency.

Small notes on directional stability on a snowy road, ride and noise.

Highly recommended for any winter roads.

Touching and acceleration are very effective, even with intensive slipping, but when braking, the edge of the ABS response is poorly felt.

In dense snow, a very good response to steering. On the ice at the entrance to the turn, drift prevails, easily eliminated by a decrease in speed. Good handling. Last year's sharp disruptions disappeared. We note here that these tires showed decent results not only in objective (measured), but also in assessment exercises.

Good directional stability of the car on a snowy road and a reaction to steering the steering wheel - here the tires are similar to the Nokian HKPL 4. They behave confidently in deep snow - they move off and move with any slipping. Very good directional stability on asphalt with very good information on the steering wheel.

Hard tires - road jolts are transmitted to the body sharply and look like bumps. The bubbling noise from tires, especially in the range of 45-90 km / h.

Very good braking on ice, longitudinal grip on snow and directional stability on asphalt.

Poor braking on the pavement, very hard tires.

Touching is only possible "on the verge", and the most effective acceleration - with a slight slipping. With an increase in its acceleration dynamics decreases sharply and the car "freezes".

When braking, ABS reacts early - it is possible that the relatively low longitudinal grip on ice is due to the small protrusion of the spikes. On these tires, the car is prone to skidding, albeit shallow, but arising already at low speed, which requires mandatory adjustment by the steering wheel.

In a corner, they don’t like breakdowns, because the glides are too tight. On passability they are very weak: in deep snow it is better not to stop - it will be difficult to start. On the pavement, good directional stability, but not enough information on the steering wheel, especially at low steering angles. Tires are buzzing, most in the speed range 60–90 km / h, then 120 km / h and higher.

In general, very good, flat tires without obvious failures, with the exception, perhaps, of cross-country ability.

Good grip on snow and ice, very good braking on asphalt.

Low level of passability, the noise level is too big.

Jogging and acceleration on these tires are preferable to pull, without slipping. They do not like ice and loose snow. Unstable when braking on mixed surfaces. In cornering, understeer. Driving should be smooth. In loose snow they swim and are poorly managed. On mixed surfaces, control is time-consuming - in order to keep the car on the desired path, you have to work hard at the wheel or reduce speed. Slides are tight and poorly stabilized.

Prowl when driving on a snowy road, drawn into loose snow. Lack of information on the steering wheel. In deep snow, only a pull is moved, and when slipping, they strive to burrow. However, they drive very well in reverse.

They don’t grab stars from the sky, but all the measured indicators are no worse than average, except that fuel consumption has let us down. There are claims to directional stability on asphalt, handling on slippery surfaces and increased noise.

The peculiarity of these tires is their sensitivity to heterogeneous coating and dislike for ice. When starting off in heavy snow, slight slippage is preferable.

In a bend, the tires behave indefinitely: in the snow they are well controlled when gas is added, and on the ice you need to slow down ahead of time, otherwise you might not fit into the bend. At the same time, they abruptly break down, slide for a long time and are sharply restored.

Deep snow is best overcome. The movement is possible either on the verge, or with a very strong slip. Going back reluctantly. They confidently hold the road on the asphalt, “drive” well and slow down. Tires are quite rigid - sharp jolts from the road are transmitted to the car body. In addition, it is unpleasantly noisy (with a changing frequency depending on speed), especially at 70-80 km / h. It is better not to get into ice on such tires, and you should be careful in the snow. Confidently hold and brake on asphalt.

Good braking on snow and asphalt, good fuel efficiency at high speed.

Despite the presence of spikes, the element of these tires is asphalt, partially covered with rolled snow. Only on such a surface can you go quickly and confidently. Ice is simply contraindicated, and loose and fresh snow is not recommended.

Very narrow range of allowable slippage during acceleration, especially on ice. The slightest braking on slippery surfaces causes the ABS to trigger.

In the turn, pronounced understeer is the demolition of the front axle with prolonged sliding and sharp recovery. They don’t react to the steering wheel turn. The increase in speed leads to a complete loss of control over the car.

Trolling in deep snow is very difficult - only on the verge of slipping, but they are not bad in reverse. At high speed on the pavement, a very sluggish reaction to steering the steering wheel, poor information content at small angles of rotation.

Despite the same scores with Michelin and Toyo, we placed a little higher - lower price, as well as better price / quality ratio. Equivalent in points, Toyo differs from Michelin in character. By the way, the price / quality ratio of 2.93 for imported tires in itself is very good, but here the leader of the test succeeded.

Very good starting of the car, but during acceleration it is necessary to dose the degree of slipping clearly. The car shod in Toyo obeys the steering wheel perfectly, and it’s better on snow than on ice. It well enters the turn with the addition of gas. Patency is very high. Riding on such tires is a pleasure, it seems they are able to overcome any snowdrifts.

The weak point of tires is braking on the asphalt. In addition, there are some comments on exchange rate stability - apparently, this is also the fault of the omnidirectional pattern. Comfort - at a very high level, the tires are quiet and soft, while very economical.

Very good longitudinal grip on snow and ice, a high level of comfort, excellent handling and patency.

Weak braking on the pavement, minor remarks on directional stability.

Highly recommended for poorly cleared roads and deep snow, lovers of comfort and an active driving style.

Unlike the “ice” “Yokohama”, “snow” “Nokian” and “Bridgestone”, these tires behave equally confidently on asphalt, and on ice, and on snow.

In starting and acceleration, they are similar to Bridgestone Revo 1 - they require accurate metering of traction on wheels. The moment of starting is difficult on the ice - it is necessary to clearly work with gas and clutch.

While driving, you feel a slight understeer. Demolition prevails, which is easily compensated. Good steering response, screwed into the rotation by adding gas.

On a snowy road they scour quite a bit, but this does not interfere with management. At constant speed, it seems like the front wheels abut the snow. With the addition of gas go smoother. In deep snow they prefer slipping. Good ride back.

On the pavement, all without comment, with the exception of modest braking. Stability and comfort at altitude.

Formally, this “Michelin” divides the 1st and 2nd places with the “Toyo”, but with a smaller mass and directional pattern, it is in second place, since it is more expensive.

This "snow" novelty from Bridgestone quite a bit, but beat the "snowmobiles" RSi. They do not like slipping when starting and accelerating. A good initial reaction to the steering wheel turn, on ice gives the car a tendency to skid, although it is not scary - self-healing, if you do not provoke its development. When driving in the snow, there is a slight delay in turning the steering wheel.

In deep snow it does not move as confidently as the RSi does not like excessive slipping. Small notes on directional stability on a snowy road are a consequence of an undirected tread pattern. But on the pavement stability is quite good. Braking is average.

A deep tread pattern promises long-term preservation of the snowmobile properties of the tire, so the expected service life as winter will probably be more than one season.

Comfort, economy - at a very high level, in addition, the tires have a low coefficient of rolling resistance.

Frankly, snow tires are the best in longitudinal grip on snow, cross-country ability, and are very good at a “rearrangement”. However, they behave well on ice, although not so confidently. The difference in behavior on ice and snow is noticeable - in an ice turn, the car slips earlier than in the snow.

When driving on an ice circle, long slides are compensated only by a decrease in speed - it is not possible to pull the car out of skid alone with the wheel. Stability is very good, especially on a snowy road.

Comfort is low - very tough.

However, tires are unreasonably expensive - in terms of price / quality, they are two times inferior to the leader of the Toyo test. Moreover, this non-studded Nokian turned out to be significantly more expensive than the leader of the HKPL 4 studs.

Tires for the "white" (snowy and icy) roads significantly broke away from their counterparts oriented to winter asphalt. Apparently, one of the options for translating their name - an ice fighter or ice guard - is well deserved.

Even if the tires are without studs, however, they can accelerate on ice and move in circles with the confidence of "studs", even slower than all of them! Of course, this is only possible in frosts of 10 degrees and below, but it deserves praise. When the temperature is close to zero, studded tires will win back.

When starting off and accelerating, they don’t like slipping; when braking, they have poor information content; it’s better to slow down to the floor. On a snowy road, tires try to move into loose snow. In a bend, the reaction to a steering wheel turn is sluggish. The abuse of speed leads to the fact that the tires in the corner break down into prolonged glides with subsequent sharp recovery.

In deep snow they do not move as confidently as the HKPL RSi. They are good on asphalt - both in braking, and in directional stability, and in comfort.

The best braking on ice, good directional stability on asphalt. Low noise.

Not enough informative braking.

These tires are leading in the subgroup of Central European non-studded. Very good on black roads. On snow and ice, the grip is better than the previous ones, although they lag behind the top five.

Based on our criteria applied to winter tires, the price is perhaps a little too big.

Touching and acceleration are only on the verge of slipping. When driving on loose snow, they are slightly drawn to the side where it is deeper. Sluggish reaction to steering on ice and rolled snow. The cornering behavior is smooth, regardless of coverage, but when driving on an ice circle, the car strives to break into a rather deep drift.

Very uncertain movement in deep snow. They go back reluctantly and poorly get out of track - a rounded shoulder affects. On the pavement, on the contrary, there are very good reactions on the steering wheel. The movement is smooth, the coupling properties are high, better braking and low fuel consumption.

The best braking and excellent directional stability on asphalt, good handling on winter roads.

Low grip on snow and ice, poor maneuverability.

Recommended only for black and slightly snowy roads.

These tires are also from the Central European category - they are clearly designed for asphalt, slush and when there is very little fresh snow. This is indirectly indicated by a rather high (190 km / h) permitted maximum speed. It is unlikely that it will be possible to realize on our winter roads, but it certainly contributed to the price of the tire.

У шинников есть понятие - шины для среднеевропейской зимы. Так вот, «Росава» - из этой категории. Чувствуется, что покрышки предназначены для теплой зимы с чистыми дорогами, но никак не для сугробов и гололеда.

Троганье и разгон нестабильны и во многом зависят от состояния покрытия. На льду разгон очень слабый. Торможение на грани срабатывания ABS невозможно, эффективность его очень низкая. Впрочем, и на снегу сцепные свойства невысоки - при движении по заснеженной дороге рыскают.

При входе в поворот замедленная реакция на действия рулем. Поворачивать нужно очень плавно. Существенно разное поведение автомобиля на различных покрытиях - между льдом и снегом или очень плотным снегом. Поведение в повороте непредсказуемо (снос-занос) - все зависит от того, что под колесами. Шины довольно шумные.

Несмотря на последнее в нашем тесте место, эти шины лучшие по соотношению цена/качество.

Хорошее торможение, неплохая курсовая устойчивость на асфальте.
