It would seem that the little things changed, but the familiar "Forester" became a stranger. Probably, the designers did it, tried to give the car more personality. In my opinion, the previous version was - no, not more interesting, but courageous. To convince myself of the opposite, I choose a car with a "visor" on the hood. I remember that it was such, the most powerful Forester 2.5XT that I liked in one of the tests.

Having updated the appearance, increased from 211 to 230 liters. with. engine power, optimized torque performance. In addition, the 2.5XT version is now, in addition to the "mechanics", equipped with a four-stage "automatic". And the stabilization system (Vehicle Dynamics Control) has become standard equipment. Xenon headlights appeared, increased the rear seat cushion, made additional hooks for securing cargo.

Lived in the new "Forester" easily and quickly. Unusual only the navigation screen, for Russia, alas, so far useless. Perhaps only the “twists” of the ventilation system are uncomfortable. But let’s better deal with the “quality of movement”.

Here it is! Slowly “breathed” the engine, the left leg seriously strained on the clutch pedal, the air conditioning rustled, tuning. Go! Powerful leap from the spot - second gear, third. Phew, impressive! And if it’s calmer? No, it’s not in vain that the Forester’s engine was optimized for the moment; it turns out that the turbo engine can be high-torque. However, if the tachometer needle goes over 2500 rpm, the Forester shows the character. But the car is convenient and clear. Effective brakes, precise handling, stiff, resilient suspensions. And if you choose an easier option? After all, the two-liter version has an increase in power of 33 liters. with.

In this "Forester" not a drop of aggression, but a sea of ​​friendliness. Soft, comfortable and at the same time energetic, it captivates above all with balance. The motor is completely not “evil”, but it is doing its job so confidently that the driver does not have any problems on the autobahn or on the mountain serpentine.

The same goes for handling. It seems that the tires creak too early, and the trajectory is imperfect. But getting used to it, you feel: the car is simple and clear. It even seemed to me that this version better fits the intent of the Forester. Of course, the Forester 2.5XT is more interesting, but this one is much friendlier.

Compared to the Forester, the Subaru Legacy has changed less. Updated interior details, engines and transmissions. Now the Legacy lineup is as follows: 3.0R spec.B; 3.0R and 2.0R. The release of the version with the 2.5 engine is discontinued.

The first, most “evil” car is the result of factory tuning. Configured for a fast chassis ride with Bilstein shock absorbers, a six-speed “mechanics” and a five-speed “automatic”, 18-inch wheels with 215 / 45R18 tires and, of course, sports attributes in the interior can be chosen.

Legacy 3.0R is a bit easier. The basic version of the 2.0R is equipped with a modernized motor familiar from the Forester. With it is a five-step “mechanics” or a four-step “automatic”.

And again, I start with the top version. The interior is stricter than in the Forester. With a turn of the key, a luminescent instrument cluster flashed. Feet felt perforated sports pedals. His gaze lingered briefly on the intricate broken line of the “automatic machine” selector. Can I go? Oh yes, you still have to adjust the seat. Simple manipulations and … again a small delay. It turns out that the steering wheel on the Legacy moves only vertically. Sitting is generally comfortable, but I would like great opportunities for a sophisticated driver.

Let's get started! Sure, the car is energetic and fast. But from three liters you expect more, and here everything happens smoothly, even comfortably, with a clear smoothing of the nature of the engine. Yes, it spins right up to 7500 rpm, and the “automatic” in manual mode keeps gears for a long time. But the car behaves surprisingly balanced, like a solid limousine. A noticeable dissonance to this sensation is elastic shaking in the pits and the noisy passage of small irregularities.

At first, I also did not find anything special in handling. Turned the steering wheel - felt the adequate reaction of the car. But the tighter the ride and the steeper the bends, the more reliable the Legacy behaves. Interestingly, but in these modes I didn’t feel much “anger”: “Legacy” without any tension goes through the turn after the turn, without even screaming tires. Wow!

And what is the two-liter option? It became noisier and … more comfortable. In this “Subaru” you can hear the characteristic sound of the opposition player. For some, his presence is quite frank, but the other will rejoice: something real, “Subarovsky” has appeared.

Suspensions are softer, but the car has maintained reliability, obedience to control. Of course, there are a few more slippages in fast bends, steering angle has increased, but even the basic version of the Legacy pleases with precise handling.

We leave on the autobahn to "feel" the motor. Its even nature does not cause complaints. Not a hurricane, but a feeling of confidence in the abilities of the machine does not leave.
