First, general information. As of January 1, 2005, 640 759 cars were registered in Yekaterinburg and the region. Over the year, the fleet of the region grew by 45.6 thousand cars - by 7.7%, which is slightly more than the national average (7.1%).
In the Urals, as elsewhere in Russia, the leaders are VAZ cars: 55.8% of them in the local fleet (51.9% in Russia as a whole). In general, the park here is almost 80% composed of Russian cars. Every tenth Sverdlovsk citizen drives the Volga, 6% are still loyal to Moskvich, 5.3% operate the IL, and a little more than 4% use UAZ off-road vehicles. The same number of followers of the Ukrainian "Cossacks" and "Tauris". And only in 7th place does a real foreign car appear. This is Toyota - it has 3.4% of the park in the Urals. Incidentally, on average in the Russian Federation, a Japanese corporation has a much larger share - 4.8%.
We now touch on the popularity rating of specific models. In general, it is no different from Central Russian. The absolute leaders are the VAZ “classic” (33% of the entire fleet), followed by the cars of the “eighth” family (15.2%) and “Muscovites” (8.3%). “Dozens” are very well represented in the Urals - they occupy 7.2% of the park (on average in the Russian Federation - 4.6%). Foreign cars in this “ranking table” are only in the second ten and begin with “Nexia” from “UzDaew”. In second place is the Toyota Corolla (both right- and left-hand drive), in third is the Toyota Karina.
The milestone of the popularity of the "right-handed" cars, apparently, passes just along the Ural Mountains. If in neighboring Siberian regions they make up the lion's share of a foreign car park, then in the Sverdlovsk region there are 19.7 thousand of them - only 3% of all cars and 15% of foreign cars. We will pay tribute to the patriotism of Sverdlovsk citizens, although you will find a variety of models in the local park. Along the Ural roads, not only “cool” all-terrain vehicles run, but also sports “Audi TTs” with a clearance of 12 cm (there are already 27 of them), a dozen representative “Jaguars-XJ” and even one “Rolls-Royce”. Serious company …
Let us now look at the “addition to the family.” Over the year, the local fleet, as was said, grew by 45.6 thousand cars, and, it should be noted, the majority (34 946 units, or 77.5%!) Are new cars produced in 2003-2004! In addition, only a little more than 10 thousand used cars - domestic and foreign cars. The absolute leader in the new market is naturally AvtoVAZ: it accounts for 63% of the total increase. At GAZ this indicator is also quite high - 8.6%. Apparently, local officials and businessmen prefer the Volga here to other representative cars. This can be the end, because the contribution of the rest of the "old Russian" car factories is almost imperceptible.
