At first glance, the new Mazda 5 is no exception. The target consumer group is men and women over 35 years old. They designed 45 containers for luggage and small things, a lot of options for transforming a five- or seven-seater saloon, two side sliding doors. The latter, incidentally, was made for the first time on multifunctional cars of segment C. And suddenly, amid an abundance of business information, the eye grabbed the combination of “driving pleasure” and “gambling handling” unusual for such devices. Indeed?
I am convinced that almost everyone who will be driving a Mazda-5 will like the workplace. It is so convenient and cozy that you have to literally look for minor flaws. I found only two. The handle for adjusting the backrest was squeezed into the gap between the body and the seat on the left, the tall man’s right leg touches the center console. The rest is entirely positive emotions, which are added as soon as the car begins to move.

And only beyond this mark the unobtrusive voice of the motor will sweeten the driver’s ear. The increase in speed is not accompanied by an obsessive whistle of the wind. Aerodynamic noises begin to stand out from the general background when driving faster than 130 km / h: a good achievement for a high minivan. Closing the topic, I note that to suppress vibrations and hum in the Mazda a whole range of measures has been taken, including the latest sound-absorbing materials. The car is quite worthy of a separate award in the category "Silence."
On the suburban highway "Mazda 5" confidently kept in the stream - cruising 120-130 km / h for her is not a problem. And if you need to push, feel free to rebuild in the left row of the autobahn. The car will respond adequately to the gas pedal. The speed for 180 km / h "vehicle of practical people" is also on the shoulder. It is only necessary to take into account that a high body reacts to gusts of wind more nervously than a passenger car.
On the narrow city streets and the serpentine of the mountain road, the Mazda 5 again demonstrates a set of positive qualities. First of all, I note good visibility. Modern cars, especially single-volume cars with wide front pillars, often cause inconvenience to the driver. You have to crank your neck to make sure that the racks are not hiding any obstacle on the road. The Mazda lacks this flaw. Another plus - good, even by passenger standards, handling. A minivan cannot be called excessively roll, but at the same time, the suspension is quite energy intensive. Add sensitive and sharp steering to it (from lock to lock only 2.9 turns of a steering wheel). By the way, it has a very interesting design. The Mazda-5 electro-hydraulic amplifier differs from traditional hydraulics in that the pump is driven by an electric motor. Naturally, at high speeds, the pump performance decreases, so that the force necessary for the “feeling” of the car appears on the steering wheel. At low speeds, the gain increases to facilitate maneuvering and parking.
Briefly about the modification with a 1.8 liter gasoline engine. Thanks to other gear ratios of the Mazda gearbox with a motor, it is weaker than losing to its two-liter cousin during acceleration in the first three gears. But on the fourth and fifth differences are noticeable - the response to pressing the gas pedal is not so lively. The 1.8 liter engine is heard more clearly in the cabin. In the city, you have to gently engage the clutch, moving away, and more often use the first gear - when you try to go pulling in the second, slight twitches are noticeable. As for the maximum speed, the car takes the bar at 180 km / h without problems.
The author is not able to list all the possibilities of transforming the cabin with its unique karakuri seats. There were no words even in the company brochure - they were replaced by a chubby album with photographs. I only note that at the forefront is the simplicity of the commission of certain actions. You don’t have to find invisible buttons and hidden levers: in the most visible place, each seat has a loop-eyelet. It is worth pulling - then everything happens as if by itself, and it is not necessary to remove the head restraints and seat belts.
The car is offered in a five- or seven-seater version. The third row is quite full. But in the folding seat of the second row there is a share of guile. An adult, let alone a large person, will be very crowded there. Therefore, the most accurate designation of complete sets would be 4 + 1 and 6 + 1, where “1”, in general, is a child's place. In addition to the 45 small containers mentioned at the very beginning, the Mazda has 10 cup holders, an 11 liter glove box, bottle holders in the doors and a CD compartment. The trunk itself, when all seven seats are in place, is small - 112 liters. But it can be increased up to 426, and up to 857 and up to 1566 liters!
