Yamaha is not the first to surprise the world. Remember, the enduro was surprised by Super Tenere, hyperbikes R1 and R6, nowadays MT-01 super-trendy streetrod …
Against their background, the HT660X and HT660R do not look like bright stars - these are two "singles for the people." It would seem … But, I tell you, at the Intermot-2004 international exhibition, advanced motorcyclists did not ignore them - I saw it myself. Do you know why? Because there is growing interest (and demand) for supermotos. Here Yamaha introduced not one but two versions of the popular model at once - X and R.
Each is for "their" customer. XT-R is a well-proven multi-purpose and universal enduro, it is not afraid of dirt and damage. His asphalt “cousin” HT-X is a fashionable shooter, doomed to become a favorite and lover of a “hooligan” city ride and, if not, fun on go-kart tracks … When these two bikes became available to journalists, I jumped into the saddle of the acting supermoto from Yamaha.
While there is little time (the engine is warming up), I note: the models are similar as two drops of water. Equipped with new perfect and environmentally friendly injection engines with a liquid cooling system, four valves per cylinder increased in comparison with the predecessor of the working volume - from 595 to 659 cm. The difference between them is only in the size of the front wheels, the diameter of the brake disc (on the road version it is larger), and suspension settings. And, of course, there are different tires on wheels, depending on the “specialization” of the devices.
