In major Moscow auto parts stores, two parts of four manufacturers were purchased: Fenox, VAZ and two nameless - all the most popular. Unnamed cylinders were somewhat different from each other, but experts recognized their common homeland - the city of Togliatti. Therefore, we will call them Togliatti-1 and Togliatti-2. The VAZ cylinders had to be purchased together with the caliper, and then separated from each other - they are not sold separately. But with "Phenox" - no problem.
Turned, as usual, in US. According to OST, brake cylinders must be tested in two ways - for static strength and durability, which is why we bought two parts for each item. The method of testing for static strength is as follows: brake fluid is supplied to the cylinder - the conditioned part must withstand a pressure of at least 240 kgf / cm2. Durability is determined on a special bench where a pulsating pressure from 0 to 7 MPa at a constant temperature of 70 ° C imitates the operation of a cylinder - a high-quality part must remain airtight for at least 150 thousand cycles. According to statistics, one cycle is approximately equal to one kilometer.
Not without “lagging behind”, although in terms of strength, all the details correspond to the normative and technical documentation. The “laggards” emerged in the longevity test phase. Strange as it may seem, the Togliatti brothers behaved differently. One of them turned out to be of high quality, the other failed. When the city of Togliatti appears on the price tag in the column “producer”, the first thing that appears in my head is the “conveyor”. It is unfortunate that recently such a stereotype has been broken into blocks of fakes and substandard details.
