Overclocking abilities of the G8 are, of course, mediocre. It is necessary to intensively untwist the engine in each gear. The highest fifth is needed only to maintain cruising speed in horizontal sections. Nevertheless, you can easily take a car as it is. The only thing that is frankly annoying is the “melodiousness” of interior details creaking on any unevenness.
But in the settings of the chassis you feel a hitch. Dense and energy-intensive suspensions do a good job with most potholes, noisily reacting only to seams, joints and other “trifles”. Their “family” trait is also emphasized - with increasing speed, the car begins to swing, repeating the profile of the road in detail. But the reactions of the VAZ 2108 are quick, accurate, which allows you to confidently move along a given path. No wonder the handling of the G8 in the 1980s was rated quite high.
Reseeding in the "thirteenth", you find yourself in a different, parallel dimension. The salon is undoubtedly richer and more comfortable. However, the "safe" steering wheel unpleasantly "breathes" in the hands. Toggle switches on the front panel are fuzzy, cotton. Of course, acoustic comfort improved markedly, vibration decreased. Naturally, the engine has become much more convenient, more high-torque. And here the flow of compliments is interrupted by the transmission. At first, only a much less clear gear shift is alarming. But as the load increases, the box begins to “sing” to different voices. N-yes - perhaps the transmission of the "old woman" is better assembled.
Suddenly, it turns out that there is a difference in the suspension settings: the “thirteenth” is noticeably more comfortable than the “eight”. She almost does not notice minor irregularities, is not prone to swaying on gentle waves and repeating the profile of the road. That's just … all this affected the handling. Sorry, the car turned into a parody of itself. There is no need to talk about the speed of responses. Quite the contrary: any movement of the wheel first causes a big roll of the body and only then - a reaction to your actions. Where are you, youth sports ideology?
WHO IS WHO?
If the G8 and Thirteenth scrupulously put down scores, you can rest assured that the latter will win. It is more modern, more comfortable, faster. That's just the question: who is the car designed for? If the young - they would gladly sacrifice comfort and ride for the sake of better handling. And they want to combine one with the other - they will probably choose another car. It turns out that the “old woman” with all its shortcomings from this point of view is much more “ideologically seasoned”. It allowed you to quickly feel the subtleties of control, even with a modest 1.3-liter engine. Not to mention the fact that she was not afraid to strike the snowdrift with her bumper - you won’t learn to ride without it!
Perhaps a part of nostalgia is mixed with my reasoning, but the memories all return to a solid machine with a bright character. Yes, over the past twenty years she has gained a lot - alas, having lost her identity.
VAZ 2108 - of course, not up-to-date, modest in its capabilities, clearly noisy and harsh. However, this car has an honest character. Overall rating 7.1 PLUSES: Rational interior, balanced driving characteristics, high build quality. CONS: Mediocre comfort and overclocking dynamics.
VAZ 2113 - has become more dynamic, comfortable and … more mature than the "grandmother". That's just lost some of the qualities of the machine, supposedly oriented to the young.
