Frankly, I myself did not expect such a pleasant experience from the Chevrolet. Especially after a few days before the test I collected the necessary information about it. For the new model, the car was not too … new.
For example, it turned out that Evanda made its debut five years ago under the name Daewoo Magnus and after purchasing the Daewoo by General Motors, it underwent only cosmetic changes. Magnus, in turn, used the units of the Daewoo Leganza that was once sold in Russia. Renaming the car Doninvest Condor, it was assembled at the Krasny Aksay plant in Taganrog, but was quickly turned off. Going further along the family tree did not make sense. It is better to pretend that in front of you is a complete stranger.
IMAGE - NOTHING?
It seems that this slogan is from the evil one. Try, having a decent social status, to drive around in a beloved, but long-old car - oblique views and gossip can not be avoided. Will have to pick up another car. Then there is a natural desire to get more by paying less. Here you will certainly pay attention to the Chevrolet Evanta.
The one that fell into my hands from the GM press garage is equipped to the maximum: “automatic”, real leather and almost natural-looking “wood”, nice little things like folding mirrors at the touch of a button … try to find an analogue cheaper than $ 24, 000 ! A quick inspection did not reveal any dirty tricks: even gaps between the body parts, closing with a pleasant sound of the door and an incomparable smell of leather in the cabin.
The first kilometers along the Moscow Boulevard Ring passed completely unnoticed. I adjusted the comfortable seats on the sofa in a matter of seconds - thanks to the electrical adjustments. Manually had to adjust only lumbar support. Even much more expensive German cars sometimes do not provide you such a service! But miscalculations in ergonomics were still found: the steering column is adjustable only in height, so you have to reach behind the wheel a little further than you would like. However, this does not bother you if you do not want to sit sporty close to the steering wheel.
Another note is to the dashboard: with the right grip, the tachometer and fuel gauge partially overlap. Is this really a hint - relax, the car is not for racing! Let's check: the right hand is on the armrest, the left hand freely holds the steering wheel by the upper spoke … now everything is perfectly visible! It is a pity that in Moscow, with its crazy movement, such experiments are safe except at a snail's speed.
He rolled in the back seat, trying on the role of the boss. Strange affair! Glancing into the salon through a wide doorway, I felt that there was more than enough space on the couch. In fact, a passenger taller than average literally feels the ceiling. Gradually sliding down the slippery skin of the seat, he soon props his front backrest with his knees. And yet, in general, “Evanda” at the first meeting for the convenience of the driver and passengers earned a rating of “good”. This inspired optimism - in the next two days, “Evanda” and I had to go from Moscow to St. Petersburg and back. Why, read in the next issue, but for now - travel impressions.
How unfriendly we have spring for motorists! Having left the Moscow region, as if you are in another world. Plots in the Vyshny Volochyok area and the Novgorod region were remembered for a long time: funnels and pavement resembling tectonic “faults” forced to precipitate up to 30–40 km / h. But the Evanda suspension saved only a couple of times - it made a breakdown, and the road "trifle" was swallowed effortlessly, while maintaining quite acceptable comfort.
On flat areas, the Evanda looked just like a “purebred American”: a mild stroke with easy longitudinal buildup. Even in winter studded shoes, she quite willingly followed the set path, only slightly annoying with an insufficiently informative steering wheel. For Russian roads, such a combination of European self-discipline and American imposingness is perhaps the best.
With a set of speed, not only advantages became obvious, but also flaws invisible in the city. Say, overtaking a wagon that runs faster than 80 km / h often made you strain: squeezing the accelerator pedal all the way, you get a quick response from the “automatic” - a hysterical voice of the engine on the background of a slow acceleration informs about the inclusion of a lower gear. For a heavy car, a 131-horsepower engine is clearly not enough. Still twenty to thirty forces … Stop! We agreed - without sporting ambitions. At cruising 100-110 km / h, the Evanda is pleased with its low noise level and moderate appetite - what else is needed for a measured ride?
And now, more than one and a half thousand kilometers are behind: different roads, different times of day, different speeds. If the character of "Evanda" is classified according to the "human" scale, I would call it a typical phlegmatic person. This will seem to someone a drawback, but to me, on the contrary, a virtue. In a jerky stream of two capitals in a solid car, you drive more confidently: neighbors are more likely to miss during rebuilding, an automatic transmission with soft shifts and informative brakes seem to reduce the usual routes. A calm spacious sedan will suit first of all those who are tired of the eternal race. If the car is not pulled, the average consumption will be kept within reasonable limits - up to 12 l / 100 km, but it is worth spurring the engine, as it will require a couple more liters per hundred. On the highway, you can meet the round 10 l / 100 km … it’s a pity that cities usually stand at the beginning and end of the highway!
Having given the keys to the Evanda, I caught myself on the fact that I managed to get used to it. Like any car, it, of course, is not without flaws, and the most important of them, in my opinion, is a modest dynamics. But as a buyer, I would forgive him this weakness - for a cozy lounge, comfortable suspension, rich equipment and an attractive price. Well, of course, for the golden crosses on the stern and grille. After all, the image is everything!
“Evanda”, which entered the Russian market in 2005, is almost an exact copy of the “Daewoo Magnus” developed by the Koreans, which debuted in 2000. It is produced only with a sedan body. Engine: 2.0 liter gasoline (131 hp). Transmissions: 5-speed manual, 4-speed automatic. Options: CDX, CDX +. Price in Russia: $ 21, 000–23, 950. Test car: Chevrolet Evanda, automatic transmission, CDX +, $ 23, 950.
Evanda will completely cope with the duties of a representative car, as well as a family car.
