Life is in full swing, the conveyor of the Gorky Automobile Plant, creaking with hinges, gives out more and more cars that have no analogues in the world in terms of price-class. Where did you see the seven thousand dollar business class model? What about quality? Also there are no analogues? Many people think just like that, though with a minus sign … So we decided to check it out, for which a number of parts were removed from the freshly purchased Volga GAZ 31105 for examination: headlights, trapezoid tie rods, brake discs, rear drums and front pads, battery. Do not worry, the car was offended, the removed parts were replaced with new ones - from the store. The quality of our relatives is important to us.
So, examination. We have already done something similar with the VAZ “ten” (ЗР, 2004, No. 11) - now we will examine the “people's car” under the “microscope”.
SLITTING THE MHL
The headlights of a new sample produced by OSVAR OJSC with bulbs H7 for dipped beam and H1 for the main beam (photo 1) were installed on our Volga. At the NIIAE laboratory, they carefully checked everything and made a conclusion: the light distribution of the headlamps complies with the requirements of the UNECE Rules for serial production. With bulbs, too, everything is in order. That's nice - restyled headlights not only look good, but also provide high-quality lighting.
Tie rods of the steering trapezoid (photo 2) were tested in US for compliance with the requirements of the OST and design documentation. The results were overwhelming even experts … It turned out that when manufacturing the fingers of the rods were not subjected to any heat treatment at all. The hardness of a spherical surface is several times lower than normalized! Under certain circumstances, this threatens to lose control - like an artillery shell into the crowd! The hardness index is so low that it was hardly possible to measure it using the Rockwell method, as required by CD. The remaining parameters were normal, but this did not help save the reputation of the products …
ALL DISCS ON THE DRUM …
US experts measured the geometric dimensions, static imbalance and hardness of the working surfaces of brake discs (photo 3) and drums (photo 4) - these parameters affect consumer properties and safety. Verdict: brake discs in their dimensions (runout and flatness) do not meet the requirements of the CD! Experts were surprised that someone had the audacity to put "such" on the car. “Did they rule them with a sledgehammer?” The tester muttered under his breath … Oddly enough, brake drums, on the contrary, fully satisfy the requirements.
HIT ON BRAKES?
Pads were also tested in US at a special stand in the natural assembly of the GAZ 3110 brake mechanism. The frictional properties, wear resistance and adhesive strength of the lining with the block were determined. It turned out that the efficiency of disc brake pads (photo 5) when testing “cold” brakes (up to 100 ° C) is slightly lower than required, but, according to experts, “this is not critical”. Their wear resistance also falls short of the norm. The effectiveness of the drum brake pads (photo 6) corresponds to the regulatory documentation, but the experts did not like the wear resistance.
The poor battery (photo 7) by the name of 6ST-55A1 (nee OAO Electric Source, the city of Saratov) was tortured according to all concepts of GOST. To begin with, they measured it - everything is normal. Then checked the backup capacity of 79 minutes. Very good. When checking the cold scroll current in the refrigerator compartment, the battery again showed its best side. A wonderful product - you can ride for fun.
So, of the seven names of components, five have met the requirements of the standards, two turned out to be a rough marriage. Moreover, the marriage is allowed in details, the quality of which directly affects the safety of the ride. Therefore, the "arithmetic" approach to the assessment of the Volga is unacceptable to us. As well as explanations like: “What do you want for such and such money?” We, the customers, want (and have every right) to get a car that meets the factory documentation - that is, reliable and safe, as far as its design allows. We hope that GAZ will be able to block the access of unusable products to the conveyor. An additional incentive has appeared for this - recall it.
The decree of the Government of the Russian Federation on the reduction and abolition of duties on components provoked a storm of protest from many Russian suppliers: they say that they are knocking the ground out under their feet. But judging by the results presented here, the most unfortunate manufacturers themselves were most successful in this. They are not just knocking out the soil - they are simply digging a hole for themselves, but at the same time for consumers.
The headlights and the bulbs installed in them were not seen in anything illegal. Good products. It is also pleasing that the Gaz head optics has acquired a modern look.
The hardness of the spherical surface of the tips should lie in the range of 53–66 units. according to Rockwell, in fact, one product had 14–18, and the second 12–15 units. Danger to life - a shame on scammers!
According to experts - bent discs! The parallelism and flatness of the working surfaces relative to the base should not exceed 0.05 mm. It turned out that at some points these parameters are off-scale six times.
But with the drums, on the contrary, there are no problems. Probably, many years of experience have affected … Previously, only drum brakes were installed on the Volga and front and rear. Someone even liked it.
The effectiveness and durability of the pads is slightly below normal. Although experts in principle are satisfied. They are not spoiled with high quality …
