The model was born as a result of a collaboration between Mercedes-AMG and the Swiss watch company IWC Schaffhausen. Of course, this name can cause a smile among connoisseurs of cinema, because this name was used by one of the "Inveterate scammers." But the company itself deserves respect. The first watches of this brand were released in 1955, and over 50 years, only 1000 timepieces were produced, today very revered by collectors.
Partnerships between these respectable companies developed in October 2004 and immediately resulted in a finished product. The limited edition will include only 55 unique 4-door coupes. Surely a large part will settle in Switzerland. The rest will be scattered around the garages of the rich in all countries of the world. Sales will begin in the fall in Affalterbach (Germany).
One of the hits of the “limited” AMG will be the instrument panel, created in the image of the Ingenieur IWC series of watches. Their cases are made of dark gray titanium, with a clear allusion to Swiss timepieces. The scales are dark, the rims are lighter. White backlighting, a new font, an analog clock are striking.
To add contrast to the serial CLS 55 AMG, the developers decided to use a "limousine" chip - to cover the interior trim panels with piano lacquer. Each element is varnished in several layers with intermediate grinding. But the letters IWC Ingenieur look most elegant, as if soldered into the center console.
Even the seats in this car look like titanium. They are not tougher than usual, but for their design, designers got nappa leather painted in the color of metal - the material is very expensive and durable. The backs are embellished with the AMG logo - it’s easy to guess what color. The studio's emblems (with backlighting) are traditionally located on the thresholds, the “machine gun” selector and other notable places. A gloomy but generally luxurious setting was complemented by an anthracite alcantara ceiling.
The machine will be equipped with 19-inch 5-spoke titanium wheels, again with 255 / 35R19 tires for the front axle and 285 / 30R19 for the rear. The design of the coupe will be distinguished by the muscular styling typical of AMG: sharply defined front contours with large air intakes, round fog lights, sidewalls with protruding thresholds and a “stern” with a fashioned diffuser and oval tailpipes. The front spoiler not only gives rigor to the look, but also increases the load on the front axle.
This can already be called busting, but what to do? - chrome body elements in AMG galvanized to matte titanium …
The engine was left unchanged: a 5.5-liter V8 with a supercharger is already good.
