A small trunk (170 l) can be increased by folding the back of the rear seat, cut in a ratio of 40:60. With a fully folded back, the boot volume increases to 845 liters, and this is already quite serious.
The machine is small in appearance, but the thoughtful organization of space and the shape of the doors allow passengers to enter and exit comfortably, rather than squeeze in. Under the high ceiling you can sit in hats and hats. And, as you know, comfortable accommodation involves a comfortable ride.
Of course, the advantages of a compact car are manifested primarily in the city. To emphasize this, the organizers of the presentation paved the route through the medieval Italian town of Assisi, on the streets of which it is sometimes difficult for two pedestrians to disperse. In terms of maneuverability and turning radius, the Spark is inferior, perhaps, only to the Smart, but that double.
Good visibility from the driver's seat, short overhangs sharpen the feeling of the dimensions of the car and allow you to fit into the narrowest lanes, convenient to park.
The city has enough power of a 52-horsepower three-cylinder engine, not to mention the 66-liter liter engine. Both engines are revolving and love when they are spun under 6000. The limiter operates at the turn of 7000 rpm.
Spark engines have added power, have become noticeably quieter and more economical due to changes in design, in particular, the advent of roller cam followers.
But even outside the city, the car behaves quite confidently. On the freeway, when the speedometer needle slowly creeps up to 140 km / h, you can talk in an undertone. In addition to improved insulation, noise reduction in the cabin was facilitated by a change in the engine mount - now there are three bearings instead of four supports.
At times, when overtaking, there is a lack of dynamics, but the race is not a Spark element. The lack of strength is more noticeable on mountain streamers, when you accelerate "gas to the floor" in the second, and the motor does not pull in the third. However, the latter relates more to a car with a three-cylinder engine. In fairness, I note that these were difficult mountain roads.
In the province, Italians do not burden themselves with caring for the pavement. However, the "new American" seems ready for such trials. “Spark” unexpectedly pleased with its smoothness and suspension ability to “not notice” small irregularities on the road. They seriously worked with the chassis. The rear suspension is completely new. Its elastic beam received diagonal levers and gas-filled shock absorbers located obliquely. The design of the front struts has also changed. The result is improved handling.
MEANS OF PROTECTION AND ATTACK
Driving the Uzbek Matiz, you don’t feel safe. In "Spark" even the basic version has a driver's pillow. The maximum configuration will also include a passenger airbag and side airbags. The body structure uses high-strength steels and alloys. They make up 51% of the mass, while in the predecessor this indicator was limited to 37%. In addition, elements in the form of honeycombs are used in the deformation zones. “Spark” was the first car in its class, the front of which meets the European standard for pedestrian safety.
The driver and passengers are also insured by a safety steering column and three-point belts with pretensioners. The risk of fire is reduced by a gas tank with an emergency fuel switch when capsizing.
