

Several dozens of eccentrics chose to roll out cars from the garages, the youngest of which was 30 years old, and, not afraid of Moscow's snow-salty streets, went to Sokolniki to start the Retro Rally. This competition is the last and probably the brightest chord of the traditional, already fifth exhibition “Ilya Sorokin's Oldtimer Gallery”.


We also could not resist when the organizers of the race and the owners of the newly restored Zaporozhets ZAZ-965A offered to participate in the rally. Everything is quite serious: given average speeds, a legend with distances between landmarks, control points, including undeclared ones - VKV (sudden time control), and even several special stages.


We must admit that at first we reacted to the race of “grandfathers” with irony. But when the judge’s hand appeared in the first HF in front of the windshield, counting the last five seconds before the start, when they saw “Moskvich” in the mirror (he started earlier and, apparently, having lost his way, got in behind our “humpbacked” one), seriously started up. “Zaporizhzhya” 27-horsepower engine did not disappoint: honestly brought to the finish the crew, the ultimate for such a machine - four. Ahead are much more powerful cars, and we are far from the last, and also the best journalistic crew. And if you divide the cars into classes …
