A modest-looking “nine” was thoroughly charged with musical equipment: a three-way component front, a pair of 12-inch subwoofers, two amplifiers … The staff shelf rattled mercilessly under the pressure of the subwoofer. The next trip to Moscow became the most significant in terms of tuning: they brought a whole set consisting of a split aluminum gear, a distributor with sports settings, a low-resistance air filter and a Solex Megasport 25x27 carburetor … In addition, the owner ordered a Prosport cover for the oil filler neck. I gave 500 rubles - but what a bauble!
After installing / tuning parts, it was possible to get rid of the depressing failure at low speeds. Well, starting from 4000, the motor just sings, easily twisting up to 6500 rpm. True, because of the low-resistance filter, the already quiet silencer became even more vociferous.
Unstable idle and good appetite (easily goes beyond 12 liters per hundred) is compensated by outstanding dynamics: overclocking the “nine” is able to successfully compete with 16-valve front-wheel drives. True, with abrupt starts, the interior fills the distinct smell of a burnt clutch …
Another problem: the strut front struts, bought in a reputable Moscow car shop, turned out to be substandard and fell into place only after surgery.
In general, the stability and controllability of this "nine" has increased as much as the smoothness worsened. In the immediate plans of the owner is another upgrade of the exhaust system, replacing the front brakes with ventilated ones and installing “low” springs. Because of them, you will have to abandon the wing flaps and winter trips to the mountains. But there is nothing to be done, there are laws in tuning, and the family has a more practical car.
