Something between a wedding limo and an IFV. The prototype GAZ 2330 Tiger was built several years ago. Now a unique all-terrain vehicle is brought to mind and is ready for small-scale production.

The name of the project is due to the original customers - a company from the United Arab Emirates. At the end of the contract, work continued, but did not change the name.

The machine was assembled from scratch on the basis of units and assemblies of serial armored vehicles. True, the power unit (Cummins diesel with a turbocharger and intercooler, corresponding to Euro II complete with Allison automatic gearbox or Prague manual gearbox) is bought from NATO countries - the USA and the Czech Republic - to expand export opportunities. It's not scary - if something happens, a completely different technique will go into battle.

All mechanics are mounted on a powerful spar frame. To her, at ten points, a body is bolted through rubber pads to the body. Alas, leaky - the car is not yet a swimmer, "land".

Despite the impressive hood, the power unit bulges into the passenger compartment, noticeably restricting the driver and passenger. However, they are not offended - the left seat has four adjustments (lumbar support, backrest angle, horizontal movement and a micro-lift (!)), The right one has three (without an elevator). The steering column can be set by the angle of inclination and reach. The back is much more spacious - there is enough space for a three-seater leather sofa. But the creators for some reason limited themselves to only a couple of chairs.

Controls in the usual places, only the handbrake was on the left of the driver. On the go - nothing, but in the working position the lever sticks out so high that it interferes with the input-output. The owner will have to either put bricks under the wheels, or develop soldier flexibility in the body. Army asceticism blows from an almost vertical dashboard trimmed with artificial leather, and from round appliances familiar from domestic trucks.

On the go, the Tiger almost does not growl. There are no vibrations, but a longitudinal buildup appears in motion. To call it a "kid" does not turn the tongue - because of the large mass, everything happens quite smoothly. Vigorous acceleration requires keeping the diesel in good shape - 2 thousand revolutions for him - a sports mode. At the high-speed ring of the landfill, the car easily gave out 132 km / h (by speedometer). For an almost five-ton colossus - a very good result. On a cobblestone bridge, the speed was reduced to 100 km / h so that noise and shaking did not interfere with communication. Here the lack of information content of the steering wheel was more clearly manifested. And also there was a “split personality” due to the fact that the visual perception of the coating did not match the actual loads. Simply put, it was shaking less than expected. For a forest road, the energy intensity of the suspension turned out to be excessive - it never came to breakdowns. And only crossing the plowed field at a speed of about 50 km / h, they realized - the limit is close. This, of course, is only about the ultimate progress of the suspension, because the off-road capabilities of the Tiger seem limitless. But you should not get carried away with them anyway - anything drowns in a swamp.

The car was outstanding. On the cross, size (it is even certified as a truck, group N2) and … price. The cost of the minimum configuration - $ 60 thousand! It seems that he is not yet affordable for our army. It is assumed that the main buyers will be the power departments of Russia, wealthy private owners and armies of other countries. Perhaps even those who are called “conditional adversaries” at headquarters exercises.

The Tiger was created on the basis of nodes tested from operational conditions from the BTR-80 and the multipurpose armored vehicle Vodnik. The result was a “super-SUV,” which has exceptional cross-country ability and essentially opens up a new class of cars.

Today, more than 20 "tigers" in civilian and special versions have already been manufactured. Our main efforts are aimed at ensuring its high reliability and replacing imported (most expensive) components and parts with domestic ones. To replace the Cummins engine, a licensed six-cylinder GAZ-5625 Steyr is being prepared. It is not only cheaper, but also easier! Instead of the Czech gearbox "Prague", we are already making our own, based on an aggregate from a GAZ-4301 truck. And although the number of gears was reduced to five (“Prague” - six-speed), due to careful selection of gears, they were able to improve the dynamics.

Kirov Tire Plant has developed a modification of the KI-115 tire with increased load capacity and designed for a maximum speed of 120 km / h. Domestic tires do an excellent job with dirt and show better than Michelin cross-country ability on poor-bearing moist soils.
