THE BAVARTS REGION ARRIVED. NEW recruits - GOOD FELLOWS
During World War II, fighter pilots developed an effective tactic - to attack with a pair: one plane shots down, the other immediately “cleans” the debris … BMW has long-standing ties with the Luftwaffe, hence, apparently, the idea is to borrow the reception of partners. In February, the tourist BMW R1200RT led the hunt for wallets of customers, a bit later the sports and tourist BMW R1200ST joined it - for those who like the car easier, quicker.
The difference between them is small - mainly in equipment and cladding, moreover, the power units and chassis units are unified. Dig deeper - and we will find that their kinship is even closer - in terms of "genetics": in almost half of the elements, newcomers are similar to the Bavarian premiere of a year ago - the BMW R1200GS tourist enduro. That was an event: we first heard the roar of the opposition of a new generation. Due to the design features, the 2-cylinder “boxer” (as the motors of this circuit are called abroad) is perfectly balanced, but the German engineers went further: they suppressed all vibrations in the bud in the engine of the new model - they used a balancing shaft.
For purely road modifications, the engine, of course, was boosted: its maximum power was increased from 100 to 110 liters. with. - due to changes in the intake and exhaust systems and modified camshafts. What is annoying? The value of the compression ratio: 12.0. Recommended 98th gasoline, but the knock sensor, changing the settings of the systems, allows you to safely “digest” the 95th. The latest “tourist” on 15 hp more powerful than the previous one is the BMW R1150RT, but it is also more economical: the "old" at a speed of 120 km / h consumed 5.5 liters of gasoline per 100 km, the new one - 4.8.
The chassis of the 2-cylinder BMW is very different from the "ordinary" motorcycles. The main bearing element is the power unit, all nodes are attached to it with steel subframes. Front suspension - with trailing arm, Telelever systems. Among its advantages, the most important - the effect of “pecking” during braking is absolutely excluded. The Paralever rear suspension is also not easy: with one composite feather of the pendulum in which the driveshaft passes, and jet thrust to compensate for rolls during sudden acceleration and gas discharge (typical for motorcycles with a longitudinal crankshaft). The main suspension components are unified with those used on the BMW R1200GS, but with one important difference. For the luxurious R1200RT, you can order an electronic ESA adjustment system: using the buttons, you can adjust the preload of the springs and the hydraulic characteristics of the shock absorbers, and hydraulics - right on the go!
