Thank God, we figured out a tricky algorithm, the mood crawled up along with the temperature. Still, life is an amazing thing: could I think about ten years ago that I would pick up a car made in … China from one of the country's first technical service centers for Zhiguli cars from Warsaw? Philosophical thoughts were interrupted by a traffic cop on the outskirts of the city.
- Your documents, please. May I congratulate you on your purchase of a Honda?
“No, Inspector, this is not a purchase.” And not the Honda at all, but the Chinese car - the Shinkai.
The captain stared at the headlights and, without checking, returned the documents.
- Chinese? And how is he, "Shinkai"? Is it good
I had to give an answer a few days later, having experienced a Chinese miracle in action.
The editorial parking lot saw a lot of cars, but a rare copy caused a very violent reaction among colleagues: “Look, what a terrible plastic!”; “And the glove compartment is a curve!”; “The climate is not turning on!”
Indeed, the quality of the finish and the color of the Sinkai is much inferior even to Korean cars, not to mention Japanese or German. But the New Victory plant (which is translated from Chinese XinKai in this way) was only built in 1984 and worked mainly for the army. After the 1999 reconstruction and the influx of investment from Hong Kong, the ratio of civilian and army vehicles gradually leveled off.
The Chinese did not begin to reinvent the wheel (although this vehicle is in their honor, as is known) and decided to buy licenses for the most important components - in particular, engines and transmissions. So, several Chinese factories at once mastered the Mitsubishi, Isuzu, etc. motors and gearboxes (including automatic ones). Here, the Toyota Toyota 2.3-liter gasoline engine, which produces only 105 hp, has taken root. ! Oddly enough, for an empty car in a city this is enough. The secret in the "tractor" traction is already from 1500 rpm. Despite the not too wide range of effective work - up to 4000 rpm, I did not experience any particular inconvenience - gear ratios were selected very well. Moreover, I did not want to take up the lever once again - the moves were too great. Especially “pleased” the fifth gear, which had to reach almost the “glove compartment”, breaking away from the back of the seat.
I must say, with ergonomics, the Chinese are at odds. The landing is reminiscent of the “Zhiguli” one: the back is straight in school, the legs in the knees are bent … With the growth of 180 cm I wanted to move back, but, alas, the length adjustment was not enough. The pedal assembly is cramped and there is no platform for the left foot at all.
The most unpleasant impression was made by adjusting the steering wheel in height. You squeeze the poor lever with frenzy back and forth until … the steering wheel suddenly lands on your feet. The lowest position, apparently, is designed for a comfortable fit six-year-old child. Moreover, the steering wheel can only be fixed in the lower (useless), middle and highest position, that is, there is practically no choice.
INCOMPLETE ON THE BACK
It's time to check the car in military suburban regimes and on the roads of the Dmitrov training ground. It was enough to go onto the highway and accelerate to 80 km / h, as the Sinkaya cargo habits became apparent: the car walked from side to side, demanding constant taxiing, so as not to fall out of its line. Although the declared maximum speed of SR-V is 120 km / h, you don’t want to go faster than a hundred. Firstly, the stiff and short-stroke brake pedal in the absence of any active safety systems does not inspire much confidence. Secondly, a cacophony of sounds accompanies yawing at this speed: the engine itches, the transmission howls, and even the aerodynamic noise … To top it all, the Sinkai, unusual for 15-degree frosts, began to freeze at speed: even with maximum revolutions of the “stove” the frosted windows were tightening.
Against this background, the suspension pleased. To the best of shaking, she effortlessly swallowed large irregularities, almost not paying attention to the "trifle". At the same time, the car showed a balanced character when entering the turn, not trying to go into a skid. The secret was revealed during weighing: the distribution of curb weight along the axes is almost even, close to the ideal ratio of 50:50!
Looking under the car, we saw a familiar design: longitudinal torsion bars, double levers, a stabilizer bar in the front, springs and a continuous axle at the back … this is a copy of a Toyota High Suite pickup truck 20 years ago! The similarities are no longer surprised.
But who advised to hang the gas tank so low? The tank drain plug claims the title of the lowest point of the machine, along with a catalytic converter. In front, the tank is covered with a funny steel screen: they say, do not be afraid, everything will work out. However, the desire to move off the asphalt disappeared completely.
However, the off-road model is already contraindicated for our model: this rather impressive-looking car is just rear-wheel drive! Shod in all-season tires of an unknown manufacturer, the Sinkai strives to throw a stern in case of careless handling of the gas pedal. The attempt to turn around on a narrow village path almost ended in failure. Skidding on the packed snow, the SR-V with each attempt slowly but surely slid down a slight slope towards the cuvette … a heap of sand found nearby saved the situation.
The next morning, the Sinkai started up cheerfully and immediately demanded a “breakfast”: its fuel consumption was quite adult - from 15 l / 100 km. Now we will warm up and go. There it was! The notorious climate system was extremely reluctant to react to a change in the direction of air flows, not wanting to warm the glass. As a result, it "departed" only after half an hour.
Finally finished off the process of transformation of the cabin. The rear seat here is displayed in a ratio of 40:60, with the pillow. It would seem - it is necessary to rejoice! Alas, there was also a catch. Not only that, having pulled the handle, I almost killed the photographer with the front arrow, so I could not fix the chair in its original position. When, on the way home, a colleague who was frozen and tormented with a seat began helplessly poking at the buttons on the climate control - “what is it, the stove doesn’t work or what?” - it was impossible to restrain hysterical laughter.
RESPONSE TO CAPTAIN
When the seat still dangles and didn’t want to return to the seat, and at a speed of 40 km / h it suddenly starts to howl the rear axle, the question involuntarily begs: what will happen when the warranty for the car expires - 2 years or 50, 000 km? By the way, on a paint and varnish coating it is even less - a year; from through corrosion - two. But even if we distract from these “trifles”, it is not clear who the car is designed for: in fact, a large gluttonous station wagon of dubious quality, with ground clearance that allows you to climb on the curb, but helpless even on the autumn roadway. Who needs you with mediocre controllability and sad ergonomics? With ventilated disc brakes, but without ABS? With leather steering wheel, but cheap plastic?
Probably, you were willingly bought at least for the fact that you are very similar to the Honda CR-V, especially at dusk … But the price! Our copy costs $ 20, 999. Those who need a real all-terrain vehicle will choose four-wheel drive Chevrolet Niva or KIA Sporting, and finally, something from a second-hand drive with a right-hand drive … Fans of SUVs will prefer a used but reliable CR-V or a new one Hyundai Tussan.
Not so long ago I came up with a formula that unmistakably allows us to give a general assessment to the machine: if you give it after the test with regret, then there is something in it. I parted with the “Chinese” without sentiment. Perhaps in ten years, the Shinkai will produce other cars? Willingly I believe. It is not in vain that the term “Chinese economic miracle” appeared …
PS Signs of a miracle are already evident: for all the minuses, cars from China … are buying! Every month, the number of dealers across the country is growing, and when the already announced all-wheel drive version with improved coloring appears, a miracle can come true …
Most of the vehicles delivered to us are richly equipped: in addition to the central lock, power windows on all doors and power mirrors, the interior pleases with leather trimmed steering wheel, seats, as well as a video player with a LCD monitor. All cars are equipped with steps, rails and alloy wheels.
It is made in China at the New Victory factory since 2003.
Engines: gasoline 2.3 liters (105–123 hp), diesel 2.7 liters (157 hp).
Transmissions: 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic.
Price in Russia: $ 18, 686–21, 900.
Test car: 105 hp, manual transmission, rear-wheel drive, $ 20, 999.
The XinKai SR-V X3 in rear-wheel drive is not the smartest choice. The situation may change with a decrease in price or the advent of an all-wheel drive version.
+ High-torque motor, good geometric cross-country ability, sturdy suspension, small turning radius, roomy trunk.
