The VFR family celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. In a series of motorcycles of its class, this cohort remains something special, a “thing in itself” - not for everyone, only for a true connoisseur.
At first glance, this Honda does not quite correspond to its sporting and tourist destination - it is too small, “modest” and the engine capacity is only 782 cm. But this is the key to the non-decreasing popularity of VFR! Honda engineers turned apparent disadvantages into advantages. Mal? That's fine! It means that it does not save on difficult mountain streamers, and at the same time it will not feel like an elephant in a china shop on city streets. Is the engine small? But compact and lightweight. And for recoil over the entire rev range, it was equipped with the VTEC system. Up to 7000 rpm, only two valves per cylinder work, inspiring the thrust characteristic of 2-valve engines, and as soon as the speed rises, two more are connected and the engine spins up merrily, without "damping" at the top.
And in the chassis - the same combination of sports and tourist advantages. Compact and lightweight frame made of aluminum alloy. A feature characteristic of the best Honda motorcycles: the pendulum support of the rear suspension is not on the frame element, but on the crankcase of the power unit. At the same time, the rear subframe is a steel pipe of a solid size, it easily withstands the weight of the passenger and luggage wardrobe trunks. Suspension brackets - with pre-tension spring controllers, and the rear - also with a rebound hydraulics regulator.
It is impossible not to say a few kind words about the brake system. It is integral, that is, the force from the lever on the steering wheel and from the pedal is transmitted to both wheels. But at the same time, she was “brought up” as a sport: out of six pistons of the front calipers from the front lever, five, and not four, work as in traditional systems.
