For the “purity of the experiment”, we have provided the opportunity for several Muscovites to ride both ATV and snowmobile, to express opinions so that the reader can compare them. They are car drivers with different experiences, driving styles, and - this united them - never in their life got behind the wheel of either four-wheeled motorcycles or snowmobiles. Therefore, they didn’t choose the sports equipment (they would break their neck early), but more calmly. In this regard, the “similar” Yamaha VK540III snowmobile (everyone calls it Viking) and the ATV Honda TRX650 Rincon came up: both utilitarian, with comparable dimensions, engine displacement, multifunctional.

Here we present the heteropolar opinions of two, but the most typical and characteristic.

- I give preference to a four-wheeled vehicle. ATV is a powerful and fast car. By its character and “behavior”, it is closer to the car I drive in, which is more understandable. Of course, it’s easier to get comfortable on the snowmobile, it has fewer controls, and you get used to it much faster. And at the same time, I’m bored with it, how boring it is to drive along a empty gray highway in a good car - no “man’s work”. Anyone who is a jipper in his heart (not “parquet”), not as a flaw, but as a virtue, will appreciate that for an ATV, driving along a snowy field is difficult. But this is not an empty grinding of snow. Every second you have to punch your way meter by meter. If there are no snowdrifts to the waist, then feel and "catch" the car. And if you have accelerated, then you are going as a cross-country driver … so I choose ATV - I prefer more understandable, easily controllable cars with a decent power reserve and good cross-country ability. With her, everything depends on you. This is the essence of male pleasure.

- I drive a sports car, maybe that's why a snowmobile is closer to me than an ATV. Judge for yourself, it doesn’t start from a place - it shoots, walks in the snow confidently, stably (this can not be said about ATV). And, again, very fast. Yes, you won’t roll over on ATV in the snow, but to get complete pleasure you need a special track or at least shallow snow - not as deep as it was during our test. In addition, firstly, I love comfort - I get it from a snowmobile, and secondly, it is important for me that each of my family takes part in the ride, so that I can ride together or three. (The instruction teaches that the three of us can’t. The four of us do the same. Do you respect the instruction?) The snowmobile is easy to drive, and women can easily get used to it. Although you will have to very strictly observe safety measures … ATV does not provide these joys. If I had to choose what to buy for winter entertainment, I would buy a snowmobile.

who on the snow field will be more glorious - is understandable. But if the snow depth is up to 30 cm, do not rush to such a conclusion: with all-wheel drive, large Rincon wheels, it feels good here. The difference in the capabilities of cars is most clearly manifested during acceleration and at maximum speeds. Due to the wide and long track, the Viking “shoots” at the start and accelerates to a decent 75 km / h. Rincon is slower by almost half. The movement on it - like a waltz, the pilot has to constantly adjust the direction of movement and, annoyed, watch as the opponent rushes forward on a snowmobile.

On an improvised track we play catch-up. As snow becomes less and less, the ATV’s dynamic abilities become more pronounced: here it wins both on straight lines and in turns. Moreover, with each successive lap, the track depth melts and becomes more and more critical for a snowmobile - its speed drops markedly. Rincon, meanwhile, is getting easier to put into a controlled skid and not damping speed! And when the ground was exposed, we had to stop the competition: the risk of damaging the skis and the track of the snowmobile is great. Give up!

Tug of war - an old Russian game. How not to have fun, do not check who is cooler in the snow! And what do you think? Draw! Both quickly digging into the snow, helplessly slip on frozen ground. We made another attempt - everything repeated, and we stopped tormenting Japanese technology: sanity defeated excitement.

And in terms of maneuverability, these machines are completely incomparable. Against the background of a rather big ATV, the snowmobile is completely uncontrollable. Its turning radius is much larger - more than two times, and the cunning Rincon transmission allows you to turn off the front axle - and spin yourself around your own “nose”. Turning around on Viking is a whole story: you need to carefully work with gas, make sure that the skis do not come off the "road", and then everything will work out. True, you can turn around and use the reverse - both machines have it.

What is the result?.. Or unequivocal advice to a strange buyer in a motor show and not give? To get off slurred - they say, both of them are interesting in their own way, each with its own merits … It’s not possible - many more are waiting for a distinct answer.
