Soft comfortable seats retained an accommodating disposition - without imposing their will on the driver, they make it easy to change the position, helpfully substituting folding armrests. Although a tricky adjustment of the backrest is difficult to find - the handle is hidden in a narrow slot near the rack and deviates … back. The interior is spacious, the floor is flat, only second-row passengers, if they lean back on the head restraints, can almost reach the top of the head to the ceiling.
Hi-Fi and climate control units have become rectangular - unification within the PSA group. In Russia they sell only gasoline “fifths” - the company decided not to splurge on the certification of less popular diesel engines. A 1.8 liter gasoline engine is taken extremely rarely: there are no living cars in the salons. You need to order and wait - for 19, 700 euros, the buyer will receive an almost "bare" body. The powerful V6 is also exotic - this engine comes only with an “automatic” and raises the price by more than one and a half times - up to 32, 000 euros. The two-liter modification is most in demand, the prices for which start at 22, 800 euros, and for 2004 cars, and in good configuration, at all from 21, 360 euros.
It is such an aggregate, but slightly more powerful than before, “about 143 horses” with a five-speed manual - by the way, with almost exemplary selectivity and clarity of inclusion - installed on a test car. It would seem that it’s a very groovy combination that allows you to go quickly and gambling. It wasn’t there: probably, for the sake of ecology, the engine was thoroughly “strangled”. He diligently, although without a hint of interception, pulls after three thousand revolutions per minute, but noticeably turns sour on smaller ones. Below a thousand revolutions, he refuses not only to accelerate the car in any gear, but simply to ride in a pull. Due to this nature (and excellent sound insulation), he became disgraced a couple of times - stalled, starting in a slow traffic jam.
HYDRAULIC - FOREVER
What a Citroen without hydropneumatic suspension! Adaptive Hydraulic-3 adjusts to the driver’s driving style, providing more athletic or more comfortable chassis settings. The clearance in normal mode is 130 mm, and it is possible to forcibly increase the clearance to 170 mm. The other two positions are “lying on my stomach” with a clearance of 90 mm and “on tiptoe” when as much as 210 mm to the ground.
All these are obvious advantages of the adjustable suspension, although the expected ride was not felt. Driving chips in the asphalt is felt clearly, in addition, accompanied by a knock. By the way, about the brakes - they abruptly come into operation with the first touch of the pedal, although then their characteristic becomes more proportional.
WHO DOES HE NEED THIS EURO?
However, we will not exaggerate - there are not so many shortcomings in the “fifth”, there are much more advantages. And a happy updated market version would have been waiting for a nice updated version, had it not been for its price tied to the ever-growing euro. In dollars, it is much less attractive - more than 30 thousand for a two-liter version. It turns out that a gaining currency is not always good …
The updated Citroen C5 added to its talents a memorable appearance, but at the same time remained a true Frenchman.
