Their advantage is the consumption current of about 60 mA versus 5 A for incandescent lamps and tiny sizes. On the radio market they are sold complete with a resistor (it is connected in series) at 1 kOhm, but it is better to pick it more precisely. The calculation is simple:
R = (Ua - Uд) / Iд (Ohm), where
Ua is the voltage in the on-board network (15 V can be taken);
Ud - operating voltage of the LED;
Id is the current of the diode.
