Hyundai Accent is familiar to us: he works in the editorial office and has repeatedly participated in runs. The instance that fell into hands this time has a slightly updated appearance and interior details. The most significant “amendment”: the steering wheel is adjustable in height! Now the driver will be able to sit here above average growth, and before the steering wheel fell on his feet.

Starter surge - engine rumbled under the hood. Here are the first complaints: on a simple dashboard there are no icons indicating the position of the selector. Because of this, we sometimes have to bow our heads and look out for where we are going now. Frankly, not too modern solution …

Visibility in the "Accent" is good thanks to moderately puffy side racks and fairly large mirrors. Breaking into the operational space, I squeeze the pedal to the floor. With a slight delay, the motor begins to confidently accelerate up to maximum speed. Accompanied by his rather loud baritone, which decreases when moving to the next step. With a quiet acceleration, the car confidently "follows the pedal" in unison with its own buzz.

But with the slowdown, as we have already noted more than once, Accent has some problems. A rather tight and not too informative pedal makes you slow down ahead of time. Probably, the brakes were originally designed for ABS, which is not in our configuration.

Rio, on the contrary, has a distinct slowdown and confusing dynamics. You can’t say the same about the editorial car with the "mechanics", so we blame the "machine". He now and then can not decide on the choice of transmission - he jumps up and down. In addition, the transmission works rougher: it is difficult not to notice the moment of the transition from overdrive to downshift. You expect ease of communication, but you have to get used to the nuances of the box. However, getting along is pretty easy, so after a quarter of an hour you don’t immediately remember that you are driving a Hyundai or KIA at the moment!

Automatic "Accent" in the minimum configuration does not indulge in luxury. Lower the windows manually, adjust the mirrors, too … but the radio flaunts on the console, and extendable cup holders are hidden a little lower.

Rio looks more modern inside and is equipped richer. Hence the difference in price: the experimental KIA is more expensive than the Accent by almost $ 900. As far as functionality is concerned, the Rio sedan lacks a small but very important option - a folding rear seat back. However, if this issue is fundamental, it can be solved by purchasing a “Rio” hatchback, and you will have to pay a little.

Looking at the list of complete sets, you understand that between the machines - only half a step. For example, the maximum equipment of both includes ABS, pillows, electric mirrors … but leather trim and alloy wheels are available only for KIA.

OUR EXPERIENCE

KIA at the time of preparing the issue was the champion in warranty obligations: 5 years or 120 thousand kilometers. Hyundai - 3 years and 60 thousand, dealers offer an extension of up to 5 years and 100 thousand. Alas, judging by the editorial fleet, the guarantee is more important for Rio: our car was sent for repair several times. Maybe she was just unlucky? In any case, Accent behaved more reliably.

On the other hand, "Hyundai" tolerates frosts worse, after minus 20 you will not "get it". He also has less ground clearance …

Finally, in order to completely fill the scales, we recall profitability: the editorial Accent with automatic transmission consumes less than the Rio with mechanics - in the winter run of 7.2 versus 8.0 l / 100 km (ZR, 2004, No. 3, 10).
