INSURANCE

Somewhere in France, respectable citizens, having learned about the fact of fraud, will immediately be reported to the police. And many of our inhabitants do not see anything terrible in deceiving the insurance company - they say that they are “chewing” on our money, so that a little bloodletting will not hurt her. It got to the point that some newspapers described in detail the methods of fraud with insurance policies. Wonderful logic! Not only is insurance fraud a crime. But there is another side to the coin: forcing the insurance company to pay for a fraudulent operation, the criminals strike not only the insurer, but also all its customers - because they get the “booty” at their expense …

Increasing cases of fraud have forced companies to work closely. So, many of them actively supported the decision of the Russian Union of Auto Insurers (RSA) on the creation of the integrated Spectrum data bank. The work of security services and loss settlement centers of insurance companies with the Spectrum IDB allows almost instantly detecting fraudulent actions (primarily such as double insurance), and revealing other fraudsters.

According to Alexander Mozalev, head of the security department at Rosgosstrakh, since the beginning of this year, 273 cases of fraud in various types of insurance have been identified. Criminal cases were opened in 173 cases, including 86 in the result of OSAGO inspections. On identified cases, 59 million rubles were returned. As a result of the joint actions of the Rosgosstrakh security service and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, since the beginning of 2004, 43 stolen vehicles insured by the company have already been found. The total value of the property returned to the owners amounted to more than 18 million rubles.

“One of the most common methods of fraud is to stage a traffic accident,” says Alexander Mozalev. - For example, on a pre-selected section of the road (usually far from the village), fraudsters place their damaged cars in such a way as to create full visibility of an accident: scatter glass fragments, fragments of damaged parts of cars, etc. The main condition is so that the guilt of one of the participants, namely, the holder of the MTPL policy, does not raise doubts among the traffic police who arrived at the place.

This method of fraud is one of the most difficult to disclose: fraudsters have time to prepare everything in advance, and traffic police officers officially record their false information. Although, it must be said, we also developed methods to bring these people to clean water.

But the scammers are on the alert: recently a new “scheme” was registered in St. Petersburg. Rogues go "hunting" on an expensive foreign car with damage to the wing, headlights or bumper. The object they usually choose a new domestic car or an inexpensive foreign car, in the cabin of which only the driver. When he leaves the car unattended, fraudsters imperceptibly inflict several scratches on it, which will become a “proof” of the accident.

Then the professional "framed" create an emergency on the road, close to a collision. The victim, seemingly happily avoiding the accident, continues to move. But they catch up with her, force her to stop and claim that the “contact” was nevertheless (“You see, our bumper is mutilated, and you have fresh scratches on the wing!”). And now, they say, the traffic police will punish the culprit for the fact that he left the scene of an accident, and the insurance company for the same reason will not indemnify! Therefore, the only way for the victim is to pay on the spot.

“In such a situation, the main thing is not to agree to the demands of ransomware, but to immediately call the traffic police,” advises A. Mozalev. - And you need to call only from your phone, not listening to the assurances of fraudsters that "they have all calls free." By the way, in the magazine “Behind the Wheel”, cases are described when a phony insurer or traffic cop advised the victim to pay immediately …
