I remembered my student years, trips to Java, … I could not resist the temptation - I went to buy a motorcycle. I liked the Ural-Voyage. Slightly confused in the levers-pedals-handles (still 20 years of inactivity!), Returned home behind the wheel.
The motorcycle is good for everyone: they liked the bass exhaust, the abundance of chrome, and even the clang and rattle when shifting gears, which vaguely resemble the sound of the tracks of an approaching tank. The only thing that didn’t work was that the “Ural” tumbled to its side in corners at low speeds. They reassured us in the motorcycle service: this is a defect of all Voyages.
They didn’t reassure … To me, a graduate of the Road Institute, it was worthless to put up with this disgrace - I set to work. In my opinion, the Ural roll is caused by the fact that the center of gravity is located high in it. To lower it, you need to make the frame more compact. I cut the upper pipe, made a rigid double ridge from seamless pipes, strengthened it with scarves. It is located 135 mm below the standard pipe. So that the engine could be removed from the converted frame without undue fuss, it made the ridge removable - it is attached to the frame by powerful flanges welded to its ends with dovetail grips.

The bulky standard battery interfered with lowering the seat. I did not dare to install a less capacious one, so I removed the muffler resonator and replaced the battery in its place. As a result, the height of the motorcycle in the seat is now only 700 mm! The test drive confirmed that it was not in vain, the motorcycle became much more stable at low speeds.
There was one more opportunity to lower the center of gravity. To lower the gas tank even further, I welded a deep U-shaped box into it from below, added another neck and transferred the speedometer to the tank.
