Indeed, now an increasing number of car owners express a desire to the installation center manager to install all the components of “serious music” hidden. In other words, leave the trunk alone and shove everything into the nearest interior saloons. What for? The interior design of a modern car is usually a finished work: it is clear that the owner of the car rarely wants to redraw it. At the same time, installing a high-quality audio system often requires several amplifiers - it is not so easy to place them. Everyone who saw the car “amp” knows that this unit is usually not small, and therefore hiding it under the skin or on the floor is a futile task. It would seem that you can not show off and install the amplifier where it is placed freely, but there is another problem, much more important than the "living space". When a weak linear signal passes through the cable five to six meters from the head unit to the amplifier, the sound quality sharply deteriorates. And if the music signal is removed from the CD-changer, then this distance is increased at least twice! Of course, modern head units sway the output signal to the level of 2–5 volts, but this does not save from the use of a long cable that degrades the sound quality. How to put up with this?

There is a solution that kills two birds with one stone: the amplifier must be placed in front of the car, as close as possible to the head unit. Unfortunately, manufacturers of automotive electronics do not indulge in a variety of high-quality amplifiers of compact sizes. Today you can count such models on the fingers of one hand - these are Power Amper Q250, HiFonics Warrior, PPI 2120, Genesis STEREO 60 and Audio System Twister 120 F2. For almost all of them, you can find a place either under the dashboard, or in the center console, or, at worst, under the front seat.

If we are talking about a "technically advanced" audio system, then we should design and build it on the principle of "Each pair of speakers has its own amplifier." In this case, the standard equipment of the amplifiers should include a developed built-in crossover (in other words, a filter), which allows each sounding “couple” to allocate a certain frequency band, whether the speakers are two- or three-component. External active crossovers are of little use for this task - we don’t have much space and we don’t need extra cables to connect them … Under these conditions, the list of models is narrowed to only two (!) - PPI 2120 and HiFonics Hawk. Only these two devices are self-sufficient - they do not require additional devices for the implementation of active channel or separate amplification. At the same time, they have high technical characteristics, affordable cost and more than compact dimensions. It used to be that HiFonics Hawk could be positioned right under the radio!

It is clear that, using several amplifiers, it is very difficult to meet the allocated budget: this is not a cheap occupation. Therefore, you can take a slightly different path: for example, to power a two-component speaker system, use not two two-channel amplifiers, but one - four-channel. Such a connection has several advantages: one amplifier is obviously easier to arrange and easier to commute, since it does not require power and acoustic wiring to its “colleagues” - the second, third, etc. In addition, one four-channel amplifier is always cheaper than two smaller brothers two channels”each. The first and second channels are connected directly to the tweeter, the third and fourth - to midbass heads.

There are also few compact four-channel channels suitable for active frequency separation - the aforementioned HiFonics Eagle, as well as the PPI 4240. The latter is larger in size, weaker in terms of power indicators, but at the same time it is more convenient and more accurate to configure. For these purposes, the Genesis Profile FOUR is also suitable - an ultra-slim amplifier with an integrated cooling fan. However, this will require the involvement of an additional low-pass filter (LPF) in the system.

If you figure out how much you can reduce the length of the interconnect and acoustic wiring when installing the amplifier in the front of the cabin compared to the usual options, it turns out that the length of the most responsible for the sound of interconnect cables can differ by ten times, and speaker - not less than five times. Considering that these cables alone are expensive, you can save some money.

When placing amplifiers in the front of the car, you should remember about the features of this type of installation. Firstly, the amplifier is very hot during operation - please take care of heat dissipation. Secondly, all wiring going under the “dashboard” must be firmly fixed, tied to standard highways and harnesses, without interfering with the operation of moving mechanisms, such as the heater’s drive, air damper, etc. Thirdly … but

thirdly, it must be remembered that any work on installing any additional equipment in a complex living mechanism called a car should be carried out carefully, meticulously, in accordance with the engineering project or at least the idea of ​​the final plan. But you probably know that …

HiFonics Eagle (rated power 4x50 W) - the smallest of the four-channel amplifiers, used specifically for separate power front speakers. In other words, the first two channels are powered by tweeters, and the second two are midbass, and no passive filters are needed! The approximate price is 190 dollars.
