The motor must be chosen meticulously: here at Vectra, not everything is as smooth as we would like. For example, on 16-valve (1.8 and 2.0 liters) until 2000 onwards has a habit of bursting the exhaust manifold. It's a shame - after all, in terms of price / return ratio, these engines are preferable to others. They are the most common in our market. The 2.5-liter is much more voracious, and expensive to maintain. Still to search for diesel Vectra (competent specialists on it - especially). And sooner or later, qualified intervention will be required: diesel fuel is proprietary, Russian!

Gasoline engines are familiar to masters. Know to change the timing belt in time. True, it will cost a pretty penny: even for an 8-valve engine, along with services, it is guaranteed to exceed $ 200. A careless attitude to this issue will result in, at best, valve replacement (from $ 800). It’s better not to think about the worst, but to change the belt carefully and always with the rollers: they may not survive until the second belt change. The same applies to the pump: its resource is 80–100 thousand (the belt runs 60 thousand km or 4 years). Conclusion - to update everything at once - and calmer, and once again not to dangle on the service. It is dangerous to start the car from a tug, especially in winter: it often cuts off the teeth.

If reliability and the cost of maintenance are more important to you than dynamics, look for an 8-valve machine. Motorists have no complaints about them. A 2-liter belt break is not so dangerous - the valves will not bend. But the spleen cooling system. The heater faucet lasts for a maximum of 4 years, then a replacement ($ 70 with work). They do not recommend taking a 1.6-liter engine of Hungarian origin: it is very greedy for oil.

Having bought Vectra, do not be lazy to clean the radiator grill once a year: all engines are sensitive to thermal conditions. This pleasure is not cheap - $ 75. But there is a lot of work: to properly clean the cells, you have to remove the bumper along with the amplifier.

The flimsy thermostat from the old model was replaced with a more reliable one - it can withstand two years. They recommend changing it along with the coolant - $ 150.

There are no comments on the boxes (5-speed "mechanics" and 4-band "automatic"). It’s just that our people have, it turns out, deep economies - they change the fluid in the automatic gearbox without flushing! It is not surprising that soon the car will be at the company station, where it (along with the owner’s wallet) will be washed in full.

Vectra pendant with surprises. The weak point is the upper support of the front shock absorbers (rare survive longer than 60 thousand). This is despite the fact that the shock absorbers themselves go 100-120 thousand km! More often than we would like, the rear silent blocks are covered ($ 20 apiece).

Unlike its predecessor, the “second” Vectra does not bother the owner with a transverse backlash of the rail. But she, sickly, still flows. Missed? Loose traction is also a common thing. Every 50-60 thousand will have to give $ 50 for the part and another $ 90 - for the work.

But all these are trifles, if you can’t imagine life without air conditioning or climate control. These are truly ruinous units! And brittle: on machines with a 1.6 engine, for example, the lower tube (the one that comes from the compressor) was laid too close to the exhaust manifold. Inexorable cracks will require attention and 300 cu about once every three years. On the 2-liter Vectra with “conditioning”, refrigerant flows correctly - through the compressor seal. An unfortunate gland, of course, will not be changed at the service. They will offer … a new compressor, but this thing is golden: $ 1000–1200 will go to the device and another $ 160 - to replace and consumables. With climate control, it’s also sad: a foolish climatic unit will easily arrange a frost in the cabin in mid-summer. I wanted to keep warm - take out and put $ 350.

With electrics, everything is much easier. The most popular reason for applying to the service station is the alarm keychain that has jumped from the code! Yes, even the lamps in the dashboard annoy (they burn for a sweet soul - with a work of $ 60–70). It is better to change the battery in our area more often, every 2-3 years. You can safely put a battery with a capacity of 66 A. h - the generator will cope. BB-wires will require replacement once every 100 thousand km, the ignition coil will withstand at least 120 thousand, and the fuel pump - all 150.
