MUSEUM OF GAZ OJSC

FROM 1.5 TO 1.5

Where to get acquainted with the history of the company, if not in the factory museum? Abroad, it is there that the most complete and most interesting collections of cars of the same brand are collected. Our manufacturers, alas, cannot boast of this. Exceptions happen, but rarely.

One of our oldest factory museums is Gazovsky. However, its main advantage is not age, but that it is rich in live exhibits - cars of different times, bearing the emblem of GAZ. For many years the museum was located in the House of Culture of the enterprise. Today lives in a more spacious room, next door to the factory training center.

In the well-kept halls collected a lot of historical documents. And not only those associated with the Nizhny Novgorod plant. The exhibition "Automobiles and Their Creators" on the most significant events in world automotive history is constantly operating. But the main part of the exposition, of course, is devoted to GAZ.

Old photographs, yellowed documents … The foundation pit on the outskirts of Nizhny, the first "red" Fords "- a lorry and a passenger GAZ-A … The legendary" emka "is on the conveyor; war; factory buildings destroyed by bombing; the project of the famous, still beloved Victory … The birth of the Volga and the Seagulls … Off-road vehicles, trucks, up to the new Nizhny Novgorod lorry - Gazelles.

The work of the remarkable Nizhny Novgorod photo master Nikolai Dobrovolsky gives a special flavor to the exhibition. For decades, he created a unique photographic record of GAZ. But from the automobile museum, first of all, we are waiting for “live” cars. There are about thirty of them in the Nizhny Novgorod collection.

Fans of antiquity will be pleasantly surprised by the condition and range of cars and trucks. The latter are especially valuable. Many passenger cars were kept by their private owners, if not in perfect, then at least suitable for restoration form. Trucks usually rotted in the backyard of car depots and dumps (have you seen the neat unrefined GAZ-51? For a long time), therefore copies that survived in good condition are real rarities.

The set of passenger models in the museum is also impressive, especially when you consider that the exhibits can be said in reference form. Two-color ZIM and Pobeda (GAZ-M20 - the last one that rolled off the assembly line in May 1958), GAZ-21 Volga vehicles of different years and, of course, the famous GAZ-67, known during the war as Ivan Willis, - the founder of domestic off-road vehicles.

In addition to serial machines, at any plant that has a long history, a lot of work on small-scale, and sometimes individual experimental samples. In the Nizhny Novgorod Museum you can see the open "Seagull" GAZ-14-05 (it was made for military parades), a unique small car GAZ-18. It is gratifying that two almost brand new GAZ 3105 were preserved in the museum. The failed project of the representative Volga, about which much was written in the late 80s, is a very recent but already forgotten story. The museum also got the Gazelle. The descendants in twenty years, when the current lorry will become a relic, you will not have to look for it in the sheds and dumps. Indeed, many cars even in the recent past, especially rare ones, cannot be found today.

The GAZ collection has preserved many documents telling about experimental samples and failed projects. Have you heard of the all-wheel drive GAZ 24? About GAZ-RAF-3920 - The 14th Seagull with a station wagon? You can learn about all this by visiting the museum.

Unfortunately, it works according to the plant's schedule - it is usually closed on Saturday and Sunday. And the area of the halls is small: to replenish the collection will soon be simply impossible. The museum has a plan to move to a larger room. It would be nice to have it.

The three-axle GAZ-AAA (1934–1943) is now the rarest car.

Convertible GAZ-14-05 "The Seagull" was made in just a few copies.
