… A few months ago in foreign automobile forums of Lada brand lovers, the new Lotus was in full swing.

For the first time, Lotuslada was shown to the general public in the BBC channel program “Top Gear”, which in Russian means “Top Gear” (!). However, there was no particular resonance. So the most difficult thing for us was to get illustrations on which you can see at least some details. The company itself refused to help, so I had to comb the Internet. Found it.

And the modesty of the British can be explained by the words of test pilot Gavin Kersch: “This is the worst car I drove …” That's it! And we thought! And half the country? Okay, you can’t - do as you like.

Apparently, it all started with a joke. Paul Sherwood, one of the Lotus team, bought on occasion a cherry Lada Riva ("five" in our opinion) with an engine of 1.3. Paid 200 pounds and was going to adapt for the "black" work. But he quickly realized that Lada was not suitable for this business. Not that I feel sorry - just old Kersh was right. Then he waved his hand and gave the car to the masters to tear to pieces.

They scratched their heads for a long time, wondering from which side it is better to approach the Russian miracle. But, as they say, they’re afraid of their eyes, and they’re doing their hands … The old engine was removed, and a “related” Fiat ST II GS was put in its place. This engine received a new filling in the form of sports shafts, valves, bored cylinders, a modified block head, lightweight pistons, connecting rods, a flywheel; Bosch ignition system, NGK B98GV spark plugs and a new radiator. The Spider 4-2-1 was made by Steve Harrist, the largest specialist in exhaust systems at Lotus. The engine produced 168 hp maximum power at 7000 rpm.

Together with the engine, they installed the proprietary “131st” box with shortened gear ratios and a “clear” shift mechanism. Since the box itself shifted to the center of the base, I had to shorten and balance the cardan.

The suspension went "low" springs and stiff Bilstein shock absorbers. The 16-inch BBS rims with low-profile tires got into the wheel arches rather freely.

Even the poor masters had to completely alter the interior. And with acceleration, they at the same time altered the Sparco seats, hoisted in place of the "five". An analog tachometer and an oil manometer, a Momo sports “donut” and an aluminum dashboard trim were added to the interior. This seemed to the British enough.

The body, without much discussion, was painted in the traditional sunbeam black / silver, with a nice, thin edging. Bumpers removed - so it is more aggressive.
