By the way, the guarantee station did not recognize the unworthy behavior of the stops as a defect: there, in a warm box, they worked properly. The masters only advised (it is always easier than doing) to open the fifth door wider and fix it in a better position in the highest position. They should be drunk with honey and mouth - as soon as the Focus was driven out onto a cool street, the emphasis turned sour again. Okay, summer is on the nose. So far we will survive, and by the next winter we will attack the guarantee station again.

From the stern we’ll move to the bow of our Ford. Here, too, is a small problem, but the matter is not in the quality of the assembly. That is, the claim is addressed not to the plant in Vsevolozhsk, but, so to speak, to the head office. So, the proprietary way of unlocking the hood in our conditions does not cause positive emotions. To gain access to the engine compartment, you need to move the emblem, exposing the lock, and then turn the key first in one direction, then in the other direction. In winter, this simple operation requires additional effort. First, gently, so as not to damage the fragile plastic with a blue oval, carefully break ice from it. Then we shift the emblem, we flush the defroster into the lock (it happens that moisture gets into it) and only then we begin to manipulate the key. It is not possible to do all this without thoroughly smearing hands and clothes. Alas, you have to climb under the hood not only for topping up the washing fluid: our Ford Focus sometimes demonstrates a completely non-foreign character.

I allow myself a brief digression. The owner of a domestic car knows what is going on. He gets a lot of “iron” for relatively little money. Therefore, I am ready to forgive a lot for my vehicle, and sometimes to turn the nuts. Buyers are entitled to demand more from a new foreign car. Yes, the Ford Focus is not a Mercedes, not a BMW or a Lexus. But a person who parted with an amount of 12-13 thousand dollars is guided by other standards of comfort, service and reliability. In the end, it was not for this that he moved to a foreign car in order to be asked to leave the work at a guarantee station every week. Now back to the specific problems of our "Focus".

Everything is in order with comfort and quality of maintenance. But the reliability and hassle-free while not boasting. In cold weather, the engine came to life from the fourth or fifth attempt, and the first seconds after starting were accompanied by an unpleasant rattle. Warming up the engine to operating temperature was too long, and fuel consumption for a modest 1, 600 “cubes” of volume was simply exorbitant - 12–13 liters per hundred in the city and 8.9–9 on the highway. But the car threw the most unpleasant surprise during the trip to Ulyanovsk: at the exit from Moscow, the engine suddenly died out! Indirect signs indicated a malfunction in the power system. The arrow of the fuel level showed a quarter of the tank, however, truncated rations of gasoline entered the nozzles. With sneezing and twitching, we crawled to the nearest column (only 200 meters), filled a full tank, and the defect disappeared. Then we drove on and added fuel, without waiting for the pointer arrow to fall again to the fatal division. Alas, it was necessary to adhere to the mark in half a tank. On the way back, near Nizhny Novgorod, the car stalled again. Thirty kilometers to the nearest column had to travel on a tow rope. Along the way, we defeated yet another “trifle”.

Imagine that your foreign car is standing rooted to the spot, away from home, and even in the dark. The situation is abnormal, the driver is nervous. A voluntary assistant was found with difficulty - it remains to hook the sufferer with a cable and go. This is where it is revealed: the towing eye of the Ford does not want to screw into place. Two experienced Zarulevets quickly guessed what was the matter, but what was the newcomer? Well, how did he know that there was a left-hand thread on the eye! Illogical technical solution, frankly.

Upon returning to the capital, of course, they visited the service station. Away of minor nit-picking - the branded “guarantee” worked out clearly. They quickly carried out diagnostics, replaced the faulty drive belt pulley (it gnashed during start-up), the gas pump gasket, the pump itself, together with the fuel level sensor, reprogrammed the engine control controller. What it cost, do not have a car under warranty - you can find out from the table, but for now, spare parts and efforts to replace them are free.

What has changed after the repair? The engine began to get better in the cold, extraneous noise disappeared, the fuel gauge now works accurately, and the car no longer stalls on the go. Gasoline consumption has noticeably decreased, although, in our opinion, for the 1.6-liter eight-valve engine it is still a bit big - according to this indicator, the Ford loses to the VAZ “ten”. However, do not rush to conclusions - the exact numbers will appear when we can take measurements on the dry roads of the landfill. There is also a meeting with Ford specialists - I would like a number of comments to appear on the pages of the magazine with producer comments.

And now I will answer the most important question: “Focus” is a good car or not? There are no perfect cars. Another thing is whether we are ready to forgive them shortcomings. Personally, I really like the Ford Focus, no matter what factory it is assembled in. Yes, and despite the above comments. The car has a cozy, modern interior, excellent handling, a fairly energy-intensive suspension, a very nice and nimble engine, a clear gearbox. Remember the lyrical digression? The conclusion follows from it. Ready to forgive the "Focus" flaws and regularly visit a good branded "guarantee" if the car will cost much cheaper.

At the current price, I want Focus to give less reason to visit it. I think this task is completely within the power of the Ford company. I hope that the reason for the next visit to the service station will be the routine scheduled maintenance.
