The Six moved. And although the Volga Rook still flaunts on the radiator, they are collecting it, as already stated by ZR, in Izhevsk. It’s not the first time to give their models to the side of VAZ: for several years “nine” have been registered in Syzran, not to mention other less ambitious examples. How did the immigrants adapt to the new climate? We decided to see everything with my own eyes, for which we visited both plants.

IZHMASH-AUTO, Izhevsk

Only bodies are made here. The remaining components come from VAZ or from its company partners. Volga Automobile Plant is also sharing production equipment. While the transfer of bodywork equipment is not completed, part of the large stamping (floor, roof, sidewall parts, etc.) is taken from Togliatti, the rest is made on site. Apparently, a huge conductor was brought from there, where they manually (!) Weld the skeleton of the future car.

It is clear that robots were not reduced from a good life: the small program (this year - 45 thousand cars) will not pay off. But can the human factor be able to compete on an equal footing with automation? Especially after the holidays. In order not to guess, the controller takes care of the process, carefully considering the quantity, quality and location of the welding points.

Finished frames are loaded onto the conveyor, interspersed with the Odovskys. Then they go together, overgrown with hinged parts: doors, hoods, trunk lids … Small defects are also removed here: dents, inconsistencies, etc. This is probably the noisiest place in the workshop - the knock of tin hammers does not subside for a minute. At the exit - another control post. Here - mandatory for all verification of gaps, seams and curvature of the surfaces. Along with this, every month one of the bodies is sent “to geometry”, where the Italian Delta-ZD three-coordinate measuring machine checks the spatial position of its control points.

The priming process is cataphoretic, well-proven on the VAZ front-wheel drive. In Tolyatti, the Zhiguli, as an outdated model, was not distributed, but in Izhevsk, please: on a good basis and the paint lasts longer. Especially if it's metallic. Today they paint only fifty bodies a month, and then manually. An unnecessary operation - varnishing - has not yet fit into the tight conveyor schedule, but at the end of the year they promise to eliminate the inconsistency.

The technology of the gradual transformation of bare bodies into a car repeats the whole vazovskaya one: conveyors, wrenches, carousels and lifting tables on the assembly sites of both enterprises are the same.

Finished cars get on the stand with running drums. “On the run” they check the operation of the engine, transmission and brakes. In doubtful cases, the car is sent to the track, where they "drive" until the malfunction makes itself felt. If the diagnosis is made, the car’s next route is to the defective area.

In defect-free cars, the “wheel alignment” is controlled and the headlights are set, and the wheel alignment angles are set by upsetting the body down behind the towing eyes - they simulate the suspension deflection at rated load.

It remains to pay tribute to ecology - to bring the CO and CH into norm and go through the sprinkler chamber. No leaks detected - the machine goes into the drive. Not satisfied with the intermediate control stamps, the Quality Control Department once a week checks “at random” a car chosen at random.

Before being sent to sales, the Sixes are additionally treated with Vaxoil - their bodies, unlike the ILs, are un galvanized.

They do not intend to invest in a major modernization of the VAZ 2106 in Izhevsk. In a year or two they plan to introduce only new seats, an additional brake light, noise isolation and an electric corrector for headlights. Without them, the Lada does not meet safety standards.

“ROSLADA”, CHEZRAN

The assortment is richer here. “Nines”, “Sevens” and “Fours” are leaving the assembly line. The latter settled in Syzran recently. Assembly production - all components from VAZ or from its suppliers. The body comes “naked” (painted) and assembled. After the input control, they are washed and sent to the drive - a four-tier warehouse, and from there, as necessary, to one or another conveyor.

In the assembly shop - order. And not only visual. After tightening the critical connections (suspension arms, bearings, rear axle, etc.), the worker changes the wrench to the brush and seals the bolt or nut with paint. Moreover, each car carries with it on the conveyor a personal passport with autographs of assembly operations performers. A little bit wrong - a locksmith gets penalty points. The more of them, the lower the premium. In general, working badly is disadvantageous.

All assembled cars are tuned and checked in the same way as in Izhevsk - the strict VAZ law is the same for everyone. Every tenth car is tested at the Bosch brake stand. And the grief of the one that fails to meet the norm - it and the previous nine will be returned for revision.

Syzran cars are almost indistinguishable from Togliatti. Samaras, for example, are equipped with an additional brake light and soft boot lining. For the forgetful, they changed the algorithm for turning off the rear fog lamps. Now this is done automatically when switching from low beam to dimensions. These are international requirements. The relatively small scale of production allowed them to respond quickly. This year they plan to collect 34.5 thousand cars of all models.

AT THE DRIVING TECHNOLOGY CENTER

It is one thing to walk along the assembly line, another is to try on a car “for yourself”. We took Izhevsk "six" and Syzran "Samara" from official dealers - in the Sok-Avto salon.

Appearance of cars satisfied - no scratches, dents, completeness complete. Know carefully drove the car under supervision. After making sure of the presence of oil, brake fluid and Tosol, they started the engines and went to the base, to the Tushino technical center, where they continued their inspection with addiction. Gaps, cracks, quality of coloring - as on the usual VAZ models. It’s not better, but worse, too.

VAZ 2106. Under the hood, at first glance, everything is as it should. And the battery terminals are covered with a protective compound, and the generator belt is moderately tightened, and there is an additional anticorrosive. Even the air filter case cover is in the correct, winter position (February was in the yard). But the oil in the crankcase is a bit much - almost two levels - incomprehensible, and unnecessary generosity. We did not find any leaks, which means the glands will have to be tight. Yes, and the spark plugs turned out to be different. The first and fourth cylinders are equipped with full-time A17DVR (with hexagon “at 21”), in the rest - two-electrode NGK R1 BMW (with hexagon “at 16”).

Familiar thing! The usual result of unloading under the motto “time is money”. After starting, no one warms up the engines, driving cars only on a choke. Not every candle can stand it - you have to replace it with anything. This is how the first “wrinkles” appear on the motor.

In the passenger compartment, on the floor, they found an overlay from the door opener and a loose wire - it was not connected to the glove compartment lamp. Trivia - close our eyes to them. Check tire pressure. Instead of the prescribed 1.7 atm in the front and the "deuces" in the rear, the pressure gauge shows 1.8 atm for all wheels except the left rear (1.6 atm) and spare (2.0 atm).

With a torque wrench, we check the bottom fasteners. Everything is tightened as it should. The oil level in the box and rear axle is normal. And here are the deviations - droplets of brake fluid crawl along the clutch hydraulic hose - the fitting is not reached at the junction with the tube, and the free play of the release fork is not enough. The defect is obvious, it is strange that they did not notice at the factory.

VAZ 2109. Everything is fine in the engine compartment and in the passenger compartment. Even the heater lining has finally been changed - and now the driver’s right foot does not get stuck in the narrow gap at the gas pedal. There is enough oil in the engine and gearbox. Tire pressure is normal. There are no complaints about tightening fasteners either. The bolt of the left brake caliper is not locked - the plate under it is not bent.

I was disappointed with the anti-corrosion protection of the bottom: in the middle of a powerful layer of factory mastic, islands of primed metal peek out - traces of strips of paper that protect the bottom nuts from the paint. Yes, and a lot of mechanical damage. This means that a thrifty owner directly from the store must go to the anticorrosive and pay for additional processing.

At the end - a check on the road. Cars go smoothly, they are not drawn to the sides, threatening sounds are not heard. Only at Samara the instrument panel grunts (actually, it's a bit early - in the old days it came later) and the gear shifting force is a bit big (probably, it will be developed). It’s not worse, it’s already good! In general, no surprises. Cars differ from usual VAZs mainly by nameplates under the hood. You can take it.
