STEELERS “SPIN” ZMZ and UAZ

At the beginning of the year, the management of Severstal holding informed journalists about the results of their automobile enterprises - ZMZ and UAZ, and about immediate plans.
In all directions at the Ulyanovsk and Zavolzhsky factories - progress. The proceeds from the sale of products of the automobile "division" of the holding in 2001 amounted to 12.5 billion rubles (430 million US dollars) compared to 11.5 billion rubles ($ 396.5 million) last year. Profitability for the year at UAZ reached + 2% against negative profitability (-22%) last year. And at the Zavolzhsky Motor Plant, this figure increased from 8.5% in 2000 to 20% in 2001.
This year UAZ plans to produce about 110 thousand cars, of which 55.6 thousand are passenger cars (11.6 thousand will fall on the 3162 model). In the summer, UAZ “threatens” to open assembly plants abroad - in Jordan (about 10 thousand cars) and Vietnam (3-4 thousand). Collaboration continues with AvtoVAZ on the new all-terrain vehicle under the conditional index UAZ-31XX.
