If you didn’t get General Motors a company with the same name as AM General Corporation, it would have let out its armored cars under the incredible army index HMMWV. Even the Americans themselves could not pronounce it, and the quite suitable analogy “hammer” appeared - a hammer. In their free time from “storms in the desert,” they tried repeatedly to create a civilian version of the car, but things did not go beyond leather seats, tinted windows and metallic paint. Schwarzenegger, let’s say, came up with such a version, but in order to seriously enter the market, a different basis was required - a platform. It is clear that General Motors had a choice: they stopped at the Chevrolet Tahoe.
So, the famous paws-levers of the suspension, a huge chest with aggregates, towering in the middle of a … four-seater body disappeared from the "Hammer". But it was possible to maintain the main thing - power and cross. What other SUV (which is exactly how the new Hammer is positioned) has a 1: 33.1 downshift in the transmission ?! A winch with an effort of 4 tons? Moreover - six leather seats, climate control, all conceivable electronic systems, an independent five-link suspension on springs or pneumatics. All this rolls on huge toothy off-road tires 315 / 70R17, which do not seem at all large on a car of two meters width and height.
Such wheels are not easy to inflate, but overcoming off-road may require temporarily reducing tire pressure. An onboard compressor is provided for this case.
It is symbolic that the maximum speed is not indicated in the press release. Apparently, this is not the main thing, although the presence of ABS and stabilization systems, disc brakes "in a circle" alludes to quite decent figures. But the average fuel consumption was calculated by ourselves, dividing the volume of the gas tank by the range. It turned out - 22.3 l / 100 km.
