DODGE-REM
The year 1994 brought great success to the Dodge division of the Chrysler Group. The full-size pickup truck "Ram", the design of which made the hearts of those whose youth came in the 50s nostalgically shrink, quickly conquered the streets of America. But time passed, and this year, Chrysler stated with some regret: the car is obsolete and needs to be replaced.
However, the appearance of the updated "Ram" 2002 model year for many may pass … almost unnoticed. Despite a radical redesign of the design, the characteristic features and proportions of the pickup were preserved, not daring to "improve" a good appearance. But under the "skin" of the body there are more than enough changes. For example, the three-section frame is made by the ultra-modern hydroforming method and provides a chassis with significantly greater rigidity than before. In the most popular all-wheel drive version of the 1500, the car finally found an independent front suspension to replace the continuous beam. In the steering, a rack and pinion mechanism is used, and the rear brakes are now disc, so pickup control has become much less “cargo”.
At the same time, the Dodge considered it overkill to develop new engines “personally” for the new model. A 3.7-liter six-cylinder engine, known by the Jeep-Liberty, as well as a 4.7-liter G8, were adapted for Rem. Both motors offer five-speed manual or automatic transmissions. In a year or two, Chrysler promises to prepare a version with a 5.8-liter engine - and then Ford and GM will urgently have to upgrade the F and Silverado pickups.
However, the true fans of “Rem” still have a reason to be sad: they will no longer get the most powerful non-standard configuration V10 motor …
