NEW SCANI ENGINE WITH TURBO COMPOUND AND HPI FUEL SYSTEM
Power 360 kW / 470 l. sec., obtained with 12 liters of working volume, is a good indicator for a modern diesel engine. We add also the compliance with environmental standards Euro III. These advantages are, first of all, the merit of two branded Scania devices. Turbocompound returns to Swedish engines. The exhaust gases untwist the turbine - from it the torque is transmitted through the reduction gears to the crankshaft. The hydraulic clutch dampens jerks and smoothly equalizes angular velocities. The increase in torque and power, according to the manufacturer, is 200 N.m and 37 kW, respectively.
The HPI (High Pressure Injection) power system was developed by Swedish experts in conjunction with the US firm Cummins. The highlight is hidden in the original hydraulic control of the pump nozzles. In each there are two sections: one is for “working” fuel (then it will go to the combustion chamber), and the moment of injection depends on the variable volume of the other.
How much fuel to feed into one and the other half of the nozzle is determined by the electronic unit. He opens and closes the fuel dosing solenoid valves - there are four in all, a pair for every three cylinders. This is the role of electronics, and the hydraulics directly controls the nozzle. It is “strong enough” to work with a pressure of more than 1000 atm, and is capable of shifting the beginning and end of the injection. This distinguishes the novelty from the "electronic" counterparts. The developers reached a compromise between ecology and power: no harmful substances were added to the exhaust gases and additional kilowatts appeared.
Hydraulic nozzle: 1 - control line; 2 - fuel drain; 3 - a fuel highway.
