There are strange - in the eyes of the "always right" majority - motorists. There is no need to buy a used Toyota and calmly cut through it! Instead, they spend far greater amounts on tuning for some reason the beloved Samara. Moreover, they look down on the proud "foreign car" - on the "Japanese", they say, and the "kettle", not familiar with the word hood, will go.

We will not talk about what role the camshaft plays in the design of the engine. Let's get right to the point - the features of camshafts developed by NPF MasterMotor and manufactured today for engines of various modifications of front-wheel drive VAZs. For fans of tuning the motor, the "humpback" shafts popular among athletes open up a number of possibilities.

If the reader remembers, for the first time the magazine reported “frisky” camshafts back in 1995. But in subsequent years, the company did not stand still.

Front-wheel drive VAZs are today one of the most common in Russia - and many of their owners are interested in making the car's speed and dynamic performance higher with minimum costs. "MasterMotor" produces camshafts precisely in such a way that everyone can choose the one that most fully meets the characteristics of the "tuned" engine. The range of camshafts of the company includes nine modifications that "cover" a wide range of requirements - from the most "modest" 2108–80 to tuning and sports. The characteristics of the camshafts are in the table. Note: the intake and exhaust valve lift values have increased significantly, for sports options - almost one and a half times. And taking into account changes in the profiling of the cams, the “time-section” has grown even more - for intake valves it has increased by 1.75–1.9 times. This determines, at appropriate speeds, an increase in torque and engine power.

Now let's get acquainted with the features of these products. Camshafts 2108 and 2110 are shown in the table for comparison. In addition to them - nine more. Let's start with the “bottom” shafts 2108–80, 2108–26 and 2108–49.

The 2108–80 camshaft is designed for engines with a working volume of 1.1–1.3 and 1.5 liters, and in the latter it turns out to be the “bottom-up” one: at 5600 rpm it will not at best reduce power compared to the serial one. But at medium and low speeds, the engine will become more “traction”.

The camshaft 2108–26 allows you to achieve an increase in engine torque in the entire operating speed range - and thus, without changes in the transmission, not only improve the acceleration performance of the car, but also maintain or even slightly increase its maximum speed.

2108–49 in comparison with the previous one is more “horseback”, although a slight increase in torque occurs at lower speeds.

Note that all these three shafts can be installed in the serial head of the block without any modifications. Their advantage is that they significantly improve the acceleration dynamics of the machine without forcing the engine in revolutions.

The next two camshafts - 2108–52 and 2108–54 - are “mounted”. At low speeds, their torque is at best at the level of serial performance. But at high it increases significantly, provided that the speed reaches 6000-7000 per minute. Therefore, to realize new engine capabilities in higher gears, intervention in the transmission may be required (perhaps the main pair needs to be “shortened” somewhat). This is well mastered by experts from tuning companies. A comparison of the shaft 2108–52 with the serial is shown in the graph.

2108–52 is fully interchangeable with a serial camshaft and does not require head preparation (unless this is due to any other considerations). The prototype of this shaft with the designation 2108-14 was used by Lada Engineering in the preparation of forced engines.

The camshaft 2108–54 leaves the car owner only one liberty: serial pushers and springs can be saved. But, significantly increasing the valve lift, they simultaneously reduced the base diameter of the cams from 38 to 36 mm, so the use of this shaft requires refinement of the head of the block. Typically lower valve seats 1 mm (for this option). At the same time, the preliminary force of the springs is slightly less, the very understatement of the saddles, as experience has shown, increases the filling of the cylinder at high speeds - the “tops” are better.

So, we met with five camshafts, where the intake valve lift is from 9.05 to 10.55 mm. They make it possible to improve the traction characteristics of mass-produced engines even with different boosts in terms of speed, and with the possibility of increasing the working volume up to 1.7 liters.

The next four camshafts are sports.

2108–62 - working up to 9000 rpm with serial pushers, adjusting washers and springs. Nominally, when preparing the head, you only need to underestimate the valve seats. This shaft is often used by tuning lovers.

Next, 2108-M1, M2 and M3 - sports camshafts for cross-country, rally, racecourse or ring races. They require the use of special valve springs and solid pushers without washers. In this series (in the order of listing), the torque “above” builds up, and “below” decreases.

As mentioned above, "MasterMotor" produces camshafts for a variety of purposes, and, apparently, motorists easily navigate the gamut of these products. For example, before the camshaft appeared 2108–52, the most popular were 2108–26 and 2108–49. And now - the 49th and 52nd …

Someone may ask: how will the fuel consumption and engine life change with a “quick” camshaft? In response, recall where there is free cheese! Only a very naive one can hope for less consumption at a speed that has increased by 20-30 km / h. Or to increase the resource of the motor, and the car as a whole. These camshafts are for those who put the power of the machine, its speed and dynamic indicators at the forefront.
